VOCABULARY:

A. Phrasal Words:

A phrasal verb is a verb made up of a main verb and a preposition or

adverb or both. Often the second word gives a special meaning to the
verb. Many phrasal verbs occur in the story. For example, dropped into,
pick up, drew away. A phrasal verb can have more than one meaning.
Often they are idiomatic, so the meaning is not obvious. Let us look at
the phrasal verb ‘pick up’ in some detail

Example:

1. To collect something- can you pick up the grocery on the way to

home?

2. To get someone into the car – I need to pick up my sister after school.
