Task 1:
Briefly discuss the elements of non-verbal communications.
Answer:
Process of sending & receiving messages without using words is known as nonverbal or
manual language.
Whenever we present something , either in a classrooms, or in auditoriums clear & effective
communication is necessary. There’re number of nonverbal expressions but few of them are
described below.
Elements of nonverbal communication:
1) Facial expressions:
Facial area including eyes, forehead, eye brows, chin & mouth are
much more capable of transmitting messages. Facial expressions shows strong
emotions like fear, anger & happiness.
2) Gesture:
Gesture is an action that expresses our feelings or ideas by the movement of
our body, hands, head & arms. Some of the gesture represent the sign of anger, some
other can shows nervousness.
For showing ‘Yes’ we use ‘head-up & down’ & for ‘No’ head ‘left – to – right’.
‘Thumb – up’ is used for showing ‘nice’ while ‘Thumb – down’ is the sign of
‘unsatisfaction’.
3) Eye contact:
Eyes of a person plays an important role in nonverbal communication.
Breaking eye contact is a sign of untruthfulness means someone is not satisfied.
Direct eye contact is a sign of trust but be careful because it may also be a sign of
disrespect.
Watching the persons eyes is of utmost important while asking question because eyes
can tell us a lot about someones.
4) Touch:
Communicating through touch shows different things like affection, hostility,
assurance etc. There are different ways to express different sences.
Professional touch used by business peoples. Polite touch is used by those who wants
affection from some one. Friendly Touch is only used by some close friends,
colleagues for congratulating each other. Intimate touch is for reserved couples
showing love & care through kissing or hugging.
5) Body movement & posture:
Body movement consist of head & hand movement, gesture , posture.
Emotions & attitudes can be emphasized through body movement. Peoples are
affected by the way you sit, stand or hold their head. Peoples belonging to higher
status often stand in erect position by holding their heads higher. Self-confident
peoples stands more erect than that of those who’ve lack of confidence..
6) Space:
Physical space is used to communicate different nonverbal message . Physical
depends on culture, situation & closeness of relationships. Too little or too much
space may have a negative impact.
7) Silence:
Silence also represents nonverbal communication. If a person is silent during
discussion, it shows that the person has no interest in this discussion or the discussion
is not according to his/her thoughts.
Task 2:

Your task is to identify the five pictures of facial expressions and five
pictures of hand gestures; those facial and hand gestures must be globally
recognized with same meaning.
Answer:
Pictures Of Facial Expression

1. Sad Mood:
Lowering of mouth corners & descending of inner corners of eyebrows
shows sad mood / sadness.

2. Happy mood:
Tightening of eyelids & raising of mouth corners represents
happiness.

3. Angry mood:
Bulging eyes, pressed lips, lowering eyebrows represents angry
mood.
4. Disgust:
Wrinkling nose bridge, raising cheeks & upper lips shows disgusting
mood.

5. Surprise:
Eye opening wide, jaw dropping slightly & eyebrows arching
represents surprise mood.

Pictures Of Hand Gestures:


1) Victory:
When idex finger & middle finger og a hand is arranged in V-happed shows a sign of victory.

It represents satisfaction.
