Is Mandarin Possibly Replace English as International Language?

Nowadays, people often talk about English as international language.

English as international language can be widespread because of the influence of
Britain imperialism. Britain colonized most countries in the world, approximately
90 colonies, which means that one of the consequences of this imperialism was
the widespread of the language. However, China as the most populated country
with the largest and most complex economy system in the world. It will give
significant influences on the growth of international world, especially in terms of
language. Therefore, although many people believe that English is an international
language, there are some main reasons that Mandarin possibly replace English in
the future.
In the past, Britain was a developed country that made many innovations
and new discoveries. Moreover, Britain is also the centre of the world economy.
Initially, there may not be a connection between the international language and the
country that is the centre of the world economy, but it has a significant impact.
However, China is the country with the largest economy and the largest exporter,
which means that many countries will depend on China, especially in business
activities. There is substantial enthusiasm in what this means for China's role as a
growing economic superpower. Many countries are even willing to come directly
to China to look for business opportunities, especially in the export and import
activities. This opportunity will certainly be greater and more profitable if the
businessman can speak local languages which is speak Mandarin.
Aside from business expansion, there is also expansion in the field of
popular culture. Starting from film, music, and popular culture that are still
leaning towards the Britain. By introducing the culture, people will indirectly
learn the language that delivers the culture. Although Britain succeeded in
disseminating their culture, China also succeeded in spreading their culture long
time ago before Britain expand their culture. Long time before the Christian
century, Chinese were able to find important equipment, such as compasses,
paper, and binary computer codes and spread almost all over the world. Western

scientists also recognize that Chinese culture is outstanding in the history of

mankind.
The era of globalization has made people increasingly aware of the
importance of learning foreign languages, including Mandarin. Foreign language
skills are used as a preparation for increasing competitiveness. That awareness
makes many people learn Mandarin because in the future China will become a
very influential country in the world. Furthermore, the progress in the field of
science and technology which experienced a significant increase, which also
helped the rapid development in the communications industry, computers, and
various electronic products. Development in this industry has even spawned trust
circulating in the community which says that "All products in the world are made
in China.”
The large distribution of Mandarin language is influenced by the
development of Chinese business. To increase business opportunities with China,
businessman at least can speak Mandarin. Furthermore, the spread of Chinese
culture and the globalization also influence the distribution of Mandarin language.
When China opened up opportunities for cooperation with other countries,
Chinese culture began to be learned by foreigner. So, there is possibility in the
future that Mandarin will replace English as International language.
