2 Overview
MIMO is an antenna technology for wireless communications in which multiple antennas are
used on both the transmitter and the receiver. MIMO can increase transmission rates through
spatial multiplexing and improve channel quality through space diversity without increasing
transmit power or bandwidth.
HSPA+ uses 2x2 MIMO in the downlink to increase single-user throughput and system capacity.
2x2 MIMO uses two antennas on the transmitter and two antennas on the receiver. The peak
rate of 2x2 MIMO at the MAC layer can reach 28 Mbit/s.
2x2 MIMO requires support from the CN, RNC, NodeB, and UE. The requirements of 2x2
MIMO are listed in Table 2-1
Item Requirement
CN The CN that complies with 3GPP Release 6 supports 8 Mbit/s in the uplink
and 16 Mbit/s in the downlink. To support the peak rate of 28 Mbit/s in
downlink MIMO mode, the CN needs to comply with 3GPP Release 7.
RNC Because MIMO depends on HSDPA and Downlink Enhanced L2, the RNC
needs to support these two features.
NodeB Because MIMO depends on HSDPA and Downlink Enhanced L2, the
NodeB needs to support these two features.
MAC-ehs, a sub-function of Downlink Enhanced L2, is responsible for
scheduling and Transport Format and Resource Combination (TFRC)
selection for MIMO users.
Each cell needs to be configured with two TX antennas to support MIMO.
The specific RF module configured with two TX antennas varies according
to the NodeB model. For details, see chapter "Requirements of MIMO for
RF Modules." In addition, to perform channel estimation on each TX
antennas, MIMO uses pilot transmit diversity or the primary/secondary
common pilot.
UE The UE must be of HS-DSCH category 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, or 20.
In the initial network deployment phase, MIMO and HSDPA both operate in the same cell to
fully utilize frequency resources and reduce network costs. If the frequency resources are
sufficient, you can set up cells capable of only MIMO.
3 Basic Principle
3.1 Overview
Research into MIMO standardization started with 3GPP Release 5. In 3GPP Release 7, the
following two standard schemes were finally defined:
l Per-antenna rate control (PARC): The PARC architecture is motivated by the theory stating
that the Shannon capacity limit for an open-loop MIMO link can be achieved. PARC is
used for UTRA TDD.
l Double Transmit antenna array (D-TxAA): D-TxAA is a MIMO scheme used for sending
multiple data streams with spatial multiplexing. D-TxAA is used for UTRA FDD.
This document concerns the latter. In UTRA FDD, the D-TxAA scheme usually adopts 2x2
MIMO, which requires two TX antennas on the NodeB side and two RX antennas on the UE
side.
The NodeB MAC-ehs scheduler determines whether to transmit one or two transport blocks
(TBs) in one TTI. In the case of two TBs, two streams can be transmitted simultaneously. They
are called the primary stream (blue) and the secondary stream (red). The primary stream is always
present, but the presence of the secondary stream depends on the channel conditions.
First, channel coding, spreading, and scrambling are performed on the TBs of the primary and
secondary streams, S1 and S2, respectively. These processes are the same as those in non-MIMO
mode.
Then, MIMO precoding is performed on S1 and S2 to ensure the orthogonality of these two
streams, reducing the interference between these two streams. The precoding formula is:
In the formula, w1 to w4 represent four precoding weights. They are determined by the NodeB
and UE during the channel estimation process.
The UE estimates the channel quality for each antenna based on the pilot signals. The two TX
antennas can transmit the same pilot signal or different pilot signals by setting different pilot
transmit modes. For details, see section 3.4 "Pilot Transmit Mode."
According to the quality of received pilot signals, the UE reports the preferred precoding weight.
The signaling information for the preferred precoding weight is referred to as the precoding
control indication (PCI). The PCI is transmitted to the NodeB together with the channel quality
indication (CQI) in a composite PCI/CQI report. The UE transmits the composite PCI/CQI report
to the NodeB using the CQI field on the HS-DPCCH. Based on the composite PCI/CQI reports,
the NodeB scheduler decides whether to schedule one or two transport blocks to the UE in one
transmission time interval (TTI) and also determines the transport block size and modulation
scheme used for each of the transport blocks.
MIMO uses the same control channels as those before MIMO is introduced. However, the
signaling carried on the control channels is different. The signaling formats on the HS-SCCH
and HS-DPCCH have been changed to process the following additional information required
by MIMO:
l Transport block (TB) sizes for each stream
l Modulation and coding scheme for each stream
l CQI for both antennas
l Antenna precoding weight reported or used
l More signaling sent to the UE to support dual-stream transmission
l More feedback received from the UE
Therefore, the HS-DPCCH frame format is optimized for MIMO, and a new HS-SCCH frame
format, known as HS-SCCH type 3, is introduced. For more information, see sections3.2
Changes to HS-DPCCH Influenced by MIMO and 3.3 HS-SCCH Type 3.
In addition, the messages over the Iub and Uu interfaces are enhanced to transfer MIMO-related
information. For details, see section 3.5 Enhanced Messages for MIMO.
3.2.1 Overview
For UEs not configured with MIMO, the HS-DPCCH only needs to indicate the ACK/NACK
and CQI information for one stream. For UEs configured with MIMO, the channel coding for
the HS-DPCCH has been changed, so the HS-DPCCH needs to indicate the ACK/NACK, PCI,
and CQI information for one or both streams.
Figure 3-2 shows the general coding flow for UEs configured in MIMO mode.
Figure 3-2 Coding flow for HS-DPCCH for UEs configured in MIMO mode
As shown in Figure 3-2, the acknowledgement message is coded to 10 bits that are denoted
w0, w1,...w9. The PCI and CQI information is coded to 19 bits that are denoted b0, b1,...b19.
For detailed information about the channel coding for the HS-DPCCH, see section "Coding for
HS-DPCCH" in 3GPP TS 25.212.
In MIMO mode, if the NodeB MAC-ehs scheduler transmits one transport block (TB), the ACK/
NACK is the same as that in non-MIMO mode. If the NodeB MAC-ehs scheduler transmits two
TBs, the ACKs/NACKs for the two downlink TBs, primary and secondary TBs, need to be
transmitted in the first slot of the HS-DPCCH subframe.
Table 3-1 lists the information carried in the first slot of the HS-DPCCH subframe when the
UE is configured in non-MIMO mode.

The NodeB MAC-ehs scheduler determines whether to send new data or retransmit data
according to the message returned.
When the value of w2 is determined, the values of w1, w3, and w4 can all be determined according
to the above formulas. The UE estimates the value of w2 and reports it to the NodeB. w2 is
indicated by the PCI and transmitted on the HS-DPCCH. Upon receiving the PCI from the UE,
the NodeB determines the value of w2 and notifies the UE of the value through the HS-SCCH.
w2 can be changed in each subframe of the HS-PDSCH.
The precoding weight w2 is mapped to PCI values, as defined in Table Table 3-3.

HS-DPCCH.
For details about the PCI and precoding, see section "Precoding control indication (PCI)
definition" in 3GPP TS 25.214.
l Type A CQI indicates the number of transport blocks (one or two) that can be transmitted
simultaneously in a TTI and the transport format supported by each transport block.
l Type B CQI indicates the transport format supported by a transport block.
Note that the dual-stream CQI is considered only in dual-stream transmission mode and the
single-stream CQI is considered only in single-stream transmission. The NodeB depends only
on type B CQI if it determines to use the single-stream transmission mode, because type A CQIs
reported by the UE may be dual-stream CQIs under favorable channel conditions.
When the UE reports both types of CQI, the RAN obtains the complete channel condition
information for single-stream transmission and dual-stream transmission. The RAN can then
schedule a single stream or two streams as appropriate for the UE and the cell.
The CQIs reported by UEs indicate channel conditions through CQI mapping tables. As shown
in Table 3-4, UEs of different categories correspond to specific CQI mapping tables.

The CQI mapping tables are not described in this document. For details, see section 6A.2.3 "CQI
tables" in 3GPP TS 25.214. Note that the transport block sizes corresponding to some CQIs in
the CQI mapping tables are changed for better performance in Huawei implementation.
The HS-SCCH type 3 is divided into two parts, which carry different information each:
l Part 1 carries the channelization code set used by transport blocks, the number of transport
blocks, modulation schemes, and PCIs.
The number of bits in part 1 and the meaning of each bit in dual-stream transmission mode
are the same as those in single-stream transmission mode.
Three bits are used to indicate the Modulation scheme and number of transport blocks, as
listed in Table 3-5.
NOTE
In Table 3-5, N/A means that there is no secondary transport block. Therefore, the current transmission
mode is single-stream mode.
When the three bits are 101, the modulation scheme for the secondary transport block (TB) and
the transmission mode are indicated by the last bit of channelization code set (CCS):
l If the last bit of CCS is 0, the number of TBs is 2 (the transmission mode is dual-stream
mode) and the modulation scheme for the secondary TB is QPSK.
l If the last bit of CCS is 1, the number of TBs is 1 (the transmission mode is single-stream
mode).
Based on such information, the UE knows whether the single-stream or dual-stream
transmission mode is used.
l Part 2 carries the transport block size, hybrid automatic retransmission request (HARQ)
process information, redundancy and constellation version, and UE identity.
In single-stream transmission mode, part 2 carries the process number, transport block size,
and redundancy version of only the single stream.
In dual-stream transmission mode, part 2 carries the process number of the primary stream
that is configured by the higher layers. It also carries the transport block sizes and
redundancy versions of both the primary and secondary streams. The process number of
the secondary stream is calculated by the UE using the process number of the primary
stream as follows:
(HAPpb + Nproc/2) mod (Nproc)
Where:
– HAPpb is the process number of the primary stream.
– Nproc is the number of HARQ processes configured by higher layers.
For more information about the HS-SCCH type 3, see section "Coding for HS-SCCH type 3"
in 3GPP TS 25.212.
3.4.1 Overview
In a MIMO-capable cell, UEs configured with MIMO require the pilot signal from the NodeB
for estimating the channel conditions between multiple RX antennas and multiple TX antennas.
The UE can estimate the channel conditions of each TX antenna in the following two modes:
In space time transmit diversity (STTD) mode, the receiver of a legacy HSDPA UE is
downgraded from an equalization receiver to a RAKE receiver, and the performance degrades
significantly as a result. Therefore, the PSP mode is recommended.
STTD can optimize power allocation. The total power allocated to each channel is the same as
that collected in no-diversity cells. Assume that the TX power of a cell is 20 W, the power margin
is 10% (2 W), the TX power of the P-CPICH is 1 W, and the TX power of the CCH is 1 W.
Figure 3-4 shows the resource allocation between two antennas in pilot transmit diversity mode.
Figure 3-4 Resource allocation between two antennas in pilot transmit diversity mode
Run the ADD UCELLSETUP command to enable a cell to support STTD and set the transmit
diversity mode of each channel to STTD. For the AICH, PICH, and S-CCPCH, run the ADD
UAICH, ADD UPICH, and ADD USCCPCHBASIC commands to set the STTDInd
(BSC6900,BSC6910) parameter to TRUE.
mapping (VAM) technique is introduced. For detailed information about the VAM technique,
see section 9.2 Virtual Antenna Mapping.
In PSP mode when both MIMO and HSDPA are enabled, the MIMO signals and pilot signals
carried on the S-CPICH might cause interference to HSDPA UEs that do not use MIMO,
increasing the performance loss. To reduce such performance loss, the intelligent interference
control (IIC) technique can be used. For detailed information about IIC, see section 9.4
Intelligent Interference Control.
The resource status indication procedure is initiated by the NodeB to report the status of NodeB
physical resources to the CRNC.
During the resource status indication procedure, if the local cell is MIMO-capable when it is set
up, then the NodeB includes the MIMO Capability IE which is set to MIMO Capable for the
local cell in the RESOURCE STATUS INDICATION message.
Audit Procedure
The audit procedure is initiated by the CRNC. In this procedure, the configuration and status of
the logical resources in the NodeB are audited, and for each MIMO-capable local cell, the
NodeB includes the MIMO Capability IE that is set to MIMO Capable in the AUDIT
RESPONSE message.
During the cell setup or reconfiguration procedure, if the MIMO Pilot Configuration IE is
included in the CELL SETUP REQUEST or CELL RECONFIGURATION REQUEST
message, then the parameters defining the pilot configuration for MIMO are stored in the NodeB
and applied when the MIMO mode is used.
During the radio link setup procedure, if the MIMO Activation Indicator IE is included in the
HS-DSCH FDD Information IE in the RADIO LINK SETUP REQUEST message, then the
NodeB activates the MIMO mode for the HS-DSCH Radio Link. In addition, the NodeB decides
the UE reporting configuration (N/M ratio) for MIMO and includes the MIMO N/M Ratio IE in
the HS-DSCH FDD Information Response IE in the RADIO LINK SETUP RESPONSE
message. The HARQ Memory Partitioning Information Extension for MIMO IE is also
included in the RADIO LINK SETUP RESPONSE message.
N/M ratio is used to indicate the reporting period of CQI type A/B.
In this procedure, the MIMO-related elements are the same as those in the radio link setup
procedure.
In this procedure, the MIMO-related elements are the same as those in the radio link setup
procedure.
4 Application Scenarios
During the service setup procedure for packet switched (PS) services, downlink MIMO can be
used in following scenarios to satisfy various requirements if the network is properly configured.
l Downlink MIMO and downlink Layer 2 enhancement are required, and both features have
been activated.
– To activate downlink MIMO, set the HspaPlusSwitch(BSC6900,BSC6910)
parameter to MIMO and the CfgSwitch(BSC6900,BSC6910) parameter to
CFG_HSDPA_MIMO_SWITCH.
– To activate downlink Layer 2 enhancement, set the HspaPlusSwitch
(BSC6900,BSC6910) parameter to DL_L2ENHANCED.
l The HS-DSCH serves as the downlink transport channel, and the E-DCH/DCH serves as
the uplink transport channel.
In the case of combined services, the bearer scheme for the service with the highest rate prevails.
For example, if VoIP services and 384 kbit/s BE services with MIMO enabled are combined
and the VoIP service rate is lower than 384 kbit/s, MIMO is applied to the combined services.
5 TFRC
For UEs with favorable channel conditions, adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) use spatial
multiplexing and dual-stream transmission to provide higher transmission rates. For a UE with
unfavorable channel conditions, AMC uses transmit diversity and single-stream transmission to
achieve better transmission quality.
In dual-stream transmission mode, transport format and resource combination (TFRC) selection
is used to determine the TB size, transmit power for each stream in addition to the number of
HS-PDSCH codes, the start codes, and the HS-SCCH codes shared by the two streams. In single-
stream transmission mode, TFRC selection is the same as that in HSDPA.
In dual-stream transmission mode, TFRC is performed on each stream. Both streams use the
same available HS-PDSCH codes.
Before receiving the CQIs from a UE, the NodeB does not schedule resources for data of the
UE. The TFRC algorithm is not performed on the UE, either.
For detailed information about TFRC, see the HSDPA Feature Parameter Description.
If these prerequisites are met, TFRC checks the traffic volume supported in dual-stream
transmission mode and single-stream transmission mode. If more data can be transmitted in dual-
stream transmission mode, this mode is configured.
In each TTI, the algorithm determines whether the conditions for using the dual-stream
transmission mode are met. If the conditions are met, dual-stream transmission is performed in
this TTI. Otherwise, single-stream transmission is performed in this TTI.
6.1 Overview
The MIMO and 64QAM technologies are introduced in 3GPP Release 7. A single UE, however,
cannot use these two technologies simultaneously. To further increase the downlink rate, 3GPP
Release 8 introduces downlink MIMO with 64QAM (also known as MIMO+64QAM). With
this technology, the theoretical downlink peak rate can reach 42 Mbit/s.
The requirements of downlink MIMO with 64QAM are listed in Table 6-1.
Item Requirement
Part Bit
HS-SCCH type 3 indicates the modulation scheme by a 3-bit field for downlink MIMO with
64QAM, as it does for dual-stream transmission in downlink MIMO. The used values 101, 010,
and 001 are described in the following table.
When the three bits are 101, the modulation scheme for the secondary transport block (TB) and
the transmission mode are indicated by the last bit of Channelization-Code-Set (CCS):
l If the last bit of CCS is 0, the number of TBs is 2 (that is, the transmission mode is dual-
stream mode) and the modulation scheme for the secondary TB is QPSK.
l If the last bit of CCS is 1, the number of TBs is 1 (that is, the transmission mode is single-
stream mode).
In addition, downlink MIMO with 64QAM and HS-SCCH Less Operation cannot be used
simultaneously. When both are supported, downlink MIMO with 64QAM is preferred.
During the setup of a PS streaming service or PS BE service, downlink MIMO with 64QAM
can be selected if the following conditions are met:
l Downlink MIMO, downlink 64QAM, downlink MIMO with 64QAM, and downlink
enhanced L2 are supported by both the network and the UE, and all of them are activated.
l The downlink HS-DSCH and uplink E-DCH/DCH are selected as transport channels.
l The parameter HspaPlusSwitch(BSC6900,BSC6910) is set to 64QAM_MIMO.
l The parameter CfgSwitch(BSC6900,BSC6910) is set to
CFG_MIMO_AND_64QAM_SWITCH.
l The DL64QAMMIMO parameter on the NodeB side is set to TRUE.
l The parameter MIMO64QAMorDCHSDPASwitch(BSC6900,BSC6910) is set to
MIMO_64QAM, or DC-HSDPA is not activated.
The scheduling method of downlink MIMO with 64QAM is the similar to that of downlink
MIMO. The difference is that the scheduler needs to use the new CQI mapping tables F, G, J,
and K to perform TFRC.

Determine the highest technology for the UE in the target cell based on the bearer scheme. If
the technology is higher than or the same as that used by the UE in the source cell, enable the
UE to use the same technology in the target cell. Otherwise, enable the UE to use the highest
technology in the target cell.
Using the same technology before and after the serving cell change provides the following
benefits:
This section describes the feature WRFD-010704 Flexible HSPA+ Technology Selection.
One or two DC-HSDPA cells may support MIMO, depending on how the DC-HSDPA cells are
configured. Gains also vary according to whether DC-HSDPA, MIMO, or both are used. DC-
HSDPA UEs have higher throughput in low-traffic cells, whereas MIMO UEs have higher
throughput in high-traffic cells. Therefore, Huawei introduces the DC-HSDPA and MIMO
dynamic selection algorithm to dynamically select which technique to use when both DC-
HSDPA and MIMO are available. This algorithm decides whether to use DC-HSDPA or MIMO
to carry newly arrived services according to the current number of HSDPA UEs and the downlink
load status in the cell. This algorithm helps to achieve higher throughput and better user
experience. The switch for this algorithm is
CFG_DC_MIMO_DYNAMIC_SELECT_SWITCH in the CfgSwitch
(BSC6900,BSC6910) parameter.
The DC-HSDPA and MIMO dynamic selection algorithm affects neither the original DRD
algorithm nor the HSPA+ technical satisfaction levels. The optimal technique is selected only
after the RNC selects an appropriate cell using the DRD algorithm and selects DC-HSDPA or
MIMO for the service. Note that the selected cell must support DC-HSDPA and at least one cell
of the DC-HSDPA cell group where the selected cell belongs must support MIMO.
Figure 7-1 shows a two-carrier network where two cells form a DC-HSDPA cell group. If the
RNC selects cell 1 for new services by using the DRD algorithm and selects DC-HSDPA or
MIMO for the UEs, it also decides:
l If cell 1 supports MIMO, the downlink transmit power of cell 2 exceeds the threshold
SecCellTcpThd(BSC6900,BSC6910) and the number of HSDPA UEs in cell 2 exceeds the
If the RNC selects cell 1 for new services without using the DRD algorithm and selects MIMO
for the UEs, then the RNC decides:
l If cell 1 supports MIMO, the downlink transmit power of cell 2 exceeds SecCellTcpThd
(BSC6900,BSC6910) and the number of HSDPA UEs in cell 2 exceeds
SecCellHUserNumThd(BSC6900,BSC6910), then the RNC selects cell 1 for new services
and selects MIMO for the UEs.
l Otherwise, the RNC directly selects DC-HSDPA for the UEs in cell 1.
Note that the number of HSDPA UEs in a cell is the sum of DC-HSDPA UEs and non-DC-
HSDPA UEs, for both primary and secondary carriers.
Gains introduced by this feature vary according to the UE distribution and penetration rate.
l This feature introduces significant gains if most UEs in a cell are likely to locate near to
the cell center. Otherwise, this feature cannot introduce noticeable gains.
l Gains introduced by this feature increases with the penetration rate of UEs capable of this
feature. If the UE penetration rate is low, this feature cannot introduce noticeable gains.
If the load on DCHs of the two DC-HSDPA carriers is high, for example, constantly higher than
40%, this feature should be disabled. If this feature is enabled when the load is high, the
throughput will be affected.
Each cell needs to be configured with two TX antennas to support MIMO. The specific RF
module configured for the 2x2 downlink MIMO mode varies according to the model of the
NodeB. For more details, see the NodeB Technical Description. Figure 8-1 and Figure 8-2 show
examples of the hardware configuration of the NodeB in 2x2 downlink MIMO.

This chapter describes the feature WRFD-010700 Performance Improvement of MIMO and
HSDPA Co-carrier.
9.1 Overview
If the frequency resource is ample, the cells meant for only MIMO users can be set up. In the
initial networking phase, MIMO and HSDPA both operate in the same cell to save frequency
resources and reduce network costs. The recommended scenario of MIMO with HSDPA (MIMO
+HSDPA) is shown in Figure 9-1.
As shown in Figure 9-1, assume that f1 carries an R99+HSDPA cell and f2 carries a MIMO
+HSDPA+R99 cell. The pilot transmit mode of f2 is PSP mode. The baseband output signals of
the two cells are transmitted after being mapped to two PAs through virtual antenna mapping
(VAM). MIMO Prime is also used to improve the UE receive quality.
With this networking, the signals of MIMO and secondary CPICH have an impact on non-MIMO
HSDPA UEs and may lead to performance loss. Huawei introduces the IIC technique to reduce
the performance loss of non-MIMO HSDPA UEs using equalization receivers.
In conclusion, Huawei adopts the PSP, VAM, MIMO Prime, and IIC techniques together to
improve the performance of a MIMO+HSDPA cell. Figure 9-2 illustrates how these techniques
work together as a whole.
The following sections describe VAM, MIMO Prime, and IIC. For details about PSP, see section
3.4.3 Primary/Secondary Common Pilot (PSP).
VAM is used to balance the transmit power of two PAs and to maximize their power efficiency.
It is used in cells in PSP mode. Figure 9-3 shows the principle of VAM.
As shown in Figure 9-3, the data from virtual antenna 1 (V1) and virtual antenna 2 (V2) is evenly
distributed to the two physical antennas through VAM transformation matrix. Therefore, a
balance is maintained between the TX powers of the two physical antennas.
Here, the values of h1, h2, h3, and h4 are predefined so that P1 and P2 have roughly the same
effect.
In a MIMO+HSDPA cell, the input data of V1 is from MIMO, CCH, R99 and HSDPA, and the
input data of V2 is from MIMO. In an R99+HSDPA cell, the input data of V1 is from CCH,
R99 and HSDPA, and there is no data input for V2.
The switch for the PCI code book restriction function is PRECDWSRSW.
NOTE
Here, the values of h1, h2, h3, and h4 are predefined so that P1 and P2 have roughly the same effect.
In a MIMO+HSDPA cell, the input data of V1 is from MIMO, CCH, R99 and HSDPA, and the input data
of V2 is from MIMO.
In cells that support MIMO and HSDPA co-carrier mode, MIMO Prime is applicable when the
following conditions are met:
l The license controlling the Performance Improvement of MIMO and HSDPA Co-carrier
feature and the license controlling the MIMO Prime feature have been activated.
l VAM has been enabled.
NOTE
The MIMOPRIMESW parameter, which specifies whether to enable MIMO Prime in non-MIMO cells,
does not need to be set for MIMO cells.
For details about MIMO Prime, see the MIMO Prime Feature Parameter Description.
through the secondary antenna on the HSDPA signals without deteriorating the HSDPA
performance.
When IIC is applied, if the power of primary and secondary common pilots is different, the
performance of IIC function may decrease. Therefore, it is recommended that the power of
primary and secondary common pilots be the same when applying IIC function. That is, it is
recommended that the parameter ScpichPower(BSC6900,BSC6910) be set to a value between
-5 and 150.

11 Network Impact
Network Performance
With Closed Loop Transmitting Diversity (CLTD), 2x2 MIMO can increase the data rates of
UEs at the cell edge and therefore extend coverage of the cell.
However, 2x2 MIMO also increases the digital signal processor (DSP) load of the NodeB. HS-
DPCCH data processing of dual-stream MIMO increases the DSP load. The DSP load
significantly increases when HS-DPCCH is established on the WBBPe board.
Compared with WRFD-010683 Downlink 64QAM, this feature has the same impact on the
system capacity as WRFD-010684 2×2 MIMO. For details, see System Capacity.

Network Performance
If an MIMO carrier uses VAM but a non-MIMO carrier does not use VAM, the success rate of
DRDs between a cell using the MIMO carrier and a cell using the non-MIMO carrier is low.
This problem can be solved by turning on the DRD rollback switch. To turn on the DRD rollback
switch, run the SET URRCTRLSWITCH command with the
RNC_RBRECFG_DRD_FAIL_ROLLBACK_SWITCH and
RNC_RBSETUP_DRD_FAIL_ROLLBACK_SWITCH check boxes under the
PROCESSSWITCH2(BSC6900,BSC6910) parameter selected.
12 Engineering Guidelines
l Densely populated urban areas: In these areas, sites are close to each other and often
experience multipath propagation. The network covering these areas has heavy traffic and
a high signal-to-interference ratio (SIR), and UEs usually move at low speeds.
2x2 MIMO saves carrier resources without affecting the existing network topology. When
carrier resources are sufficient, the user experience of MIMO users is improved. For details,
see 12.1.3 WRFD-010700 Performance Improvement of MIMO and HSDPA Co-
carrier.
l MIMO and HSDPA co-carrier: This co-carrier mode saves carrier resources without
affecting the existing network topology.
l When carrier resources are sufficient, configure cells to allow only MIMO-capable UEs.
This allows MIMO to achieve optimum performance without affecting the performance of
HSDPA UEs.
l If there is more than one carrier, configure carriers to support MIMO and HSDPA on a per
carrier basis. This reduces the impact on the performance of HSDPA UEs and maximizes
the MIMO gain. The MIMO and HSDPA co-carrier configuration can be enabled on other
carriers if the number of MIMO UEs increases.
l Proportion of MIMO UEs in a network: MIMO is not recommended for networks that have
only a small proportion of MIMO UEs.
l Radio environment: MIMO is recommended in hot-spot areas that often experience
multipath propagation and where the cell radius is small and the SIR is high.
l Data service demand: MIMO is recommended for networks where users have a high
demand for data services.
l Downlink load: MIMO is recommended for networks that have a heavy downlink load.
l Uplink data rate: The downlink data rate may be restricted if the uplink data rate is not high
enough. Therefore, enable HSUPA in MIMO-capable cells as well.
12.3 Planning
12.3.1 RF Planning
Deploying MIMO and HSDPA on the same carrier saves carrier resources without affecting the
existing network topology. Configure cells to allow only MIMO-capable UEs to access the
network only when carrier resources are sufficient.
In cells that allow only MIMO-capable UEs, the MIMO performance in PSP mode is similar to
that in STTD mode. However, the PSP mode can be used in MIMO and HSDPA co-carrier
scenarios to prevent deterioration of the performance of UEs that support only HSDPA.
3. MIMO should be deployed carrier by carrier in MIMO and HSDPA co-carrier scenarios.
12.4 Deployment
Requirements
l Dependencies on Hardware
– The DBS3800 must be configured with the EBBC or EBBCd board.
– The DBS3900 and BTS3900/BTS3900A must be configured with the WBBPb,
WBBPd, or WBBPf board.
– The BTS3812E/AE must be configured with the EBBI, EBOI, EDLP, or EDLPd board.
Configure the EULP or EULPd board when the EDLP or EDLPd board is used. The
uplink services cannot be established on the HBBI and HULP boards.
– Two RF modules must be interconnected to support 2x2 MIMO when a Huawei-
delivered RF module supports only one transmit channel. An RRU3801C (20 W) must
be interconnected with another RRU3801C (20 W) to support 2x2 MIMO.
l Dependencies on Other Features
MAC-ehs, a sub-function of Downlink Enhanced L2, is responsible for scheduling and
TFRC selection for MIMO users.
For details, see 10.1 Features Related to WRFD-010684 2x2 MIMO.
l License
For details about how to activate the license, see License Management Feature Parameter
Description.
If RAN Sharing or MOCN is enabled, the licensed value is allocated among the primary
and secondary operators according to the value of the "License Allocation for Multiple
Operators parameter".
Method 2: some license control items, such as UL CE Num, can be allocated through both
the common group and private groups. In this case, the licensed values specified by the
private group are preferentially used, and the licensed value specified by the common group
is used on a first-come, first-served basis. For the NodeB license allocation among multiple
operators, see License Management Feature Parameter Description.
l Other Prerequisites
– The software version must be RAN11.0 or later.
– The NodeB/CN version must be Release 9 or Release 8. Release 7 and later versions
support MIMO. RAN14.0 corresponds to Release 9. Protocol Release 9 is recommended
for the NodeB and Release 8 is recommended for the CN.
– The UE is of category 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, 28, 30 or 32, as specified by
the 3GPP protocols.
– Logical cells have been established on the RNC side.
– For details about the hardware deployment related to MIMO, see "2x2 MIMO
Configuration" in NodeB Technical Description.
Precautions
Before enabling this feature in an activated cell, you need to:
l Deactivate the cell. This will interrupt services in the cell. Therefore, enable the feature
when the traffic of the cell is light.
l Ensure that there are sufficient baseband resources on the baseband processing board.
Otherwise, this feature cannot be activated.
Because the downlink bandwidth for transmit diversity is twice the downlink bandwidth for non-
transmit diversity, the number of transmit diversity cells supported by a CPRI port is less than
the number of non-transmit diversity cells supported by the CPRI port.
Activation
Step 2 Run the RNC MML command SET UFRC to set common parameters among the fundamental
resource configuration (FRC) parameters. In this step, set Preferred MIMO or 64QAM
character to MIMO.
NOTE
MIMO and 64QAM cannot be enabled together for UEs of 3GPP R7.
If Preferred MIMO or 64QAM character is set to MIMO, MIMO is preferentially configured for the UE.
Before verifying the feature, set Preferred MIMO or 64QAM character to MIMO. After the verification,
set this parameter to a proper value according to the network plan.
Step 3 (Optional) Run the RNC MML command SET UFRC to set common parameters among the
fundamental resource configuration (FRC) parameters. In this step, set HSPA Technologies
Retried by UEs to MIMO.
Step 4 Run the RNC MML command MOD UCELLALGOSWITCH turn on the cell-level MIMO
switch and enhanced L2 function switch. In this step, set Cell Hspa Plus function switch to
MIMO, DL_L2ENHANCED(Cell DL L2ENHANCED Function Switch), and
UL_L2ENHANCED(Cell UL L2ENHANCED Function Switch).
Step 5 Run the RNC MML command DEA UCELL to deactivate the cell.
Step 6 Configure the related data on the NodeB according to the MIMO hardware configuration
scheme. For details, see NodeB Technical Description. The following procedure takes the
RRU3804 as an example to describe how to configure data for the change from one RRU3804
to two cascading RRU3804s.
1. Optional: Run the NodeB MML command ADD RRUCHAIN to create an RRU chain.
2. Run the NodeB MML command ADD RRU to add an RRU to the chain.
Step 7 On the NodeB, modify Diversity Mode of the sector and Two Tx Way of the cell.
l For the 3900 series base station, BTS3902E, and BTS3803E:
1. Run the NodeB MML command MOD SECTOREQM with the Operational Mode
parameter set to DELETE(DELETE) in order to delete the original sector. Then, run this
command again with the Operational Mode parameter set to ADD(ADD) in order to add
a sector configured with two transmit channels. In this way, the original sector is changed
to a sector with two transmit channels.
NOTE
Sectors must be configured with dual-antenna receiving for the MIMO feature. For details, see section
"Scenario 8" in NodeB Carrier Management Feature Parameter Description.
2. Run the NodeB MML command MOD ULOCELL to modify the local cell. In this step,
set Two Tx Way to TRUE and configure the antenna data based on the MIMO hardware
deployment scheme.

"Scenario 8" in NodeB Carrier Management Feature Parameter Description.
4. Run the NodeB MML command ADD LOCELL to add a local cell. In this step, set Two
Tx Way to TRUE and configure the antenna data based on the MIMO hardware
deployment scheme.
22. Run the RNC MML command ACT USCCPCH to activate the SCCPCH.
23. Run the RNC MML command MOD UCELLSETUP to set the transmit diversity mode
of an MIMO-enabled cell to STTD.
l Set TX Diversity Indication to TRUE.
l Set STTD Support Indicator to STTD_Supported.
l Set CP1 Support Indicator to CP1_not_Supported.
l Set DPCH Tx Diversity Mode for Other User to STTD.
l Set DPCH Tx Diversity Mode for MIMO User to STTD.
l Set FDPCH Tx Diversity Mode for Other User to STTD.

Performance Monitoring
Monitor the value of the VS.HSDPA.MeanChThroughput counter. This counter measures the
mean downlink throughput of a single HSDPA MAC-d flow in a cell. If the counter value
increases after Downlink 64QAM+MIMO is enabled, Downlink 64QAM+MIMO provides
throughput gains.

For the NodeB license allocation among multiple
operators, see .
l Other Prerequisites
– The software version should not be earlier than RAN12.0.
Precautions
Before enabling the feature in an existing cell, you need to deactivate the cell. This, however,
will interrupt services in the cell. Therefore, you should enable the feature when the traffic of
the cell is low.

Requirements
l Dependencies on Hardware
– The BTS3812E, BTS3812A, and BTS3812AE must be configured with the EBBI,
EBOI, and EDLP boards. In addition, the uplink services cannot be established on the
HBBI or HULP board.
– For the DBS3800, the BBU3806 must be configured with the EBBC or EBBCd board.
– The 3900 series base stations must be configured with the WBBPb or WBBPd board.
l Dependencies on Other Features
The following features must have been configured before this feature is activated:
WRFD-010696 DC-HSDPA and WRFD-010684 2×2 MIMO.
l License
For details about how to activate the license, see License Management Feature Parameter
Description.
If RAN Sharing or MOCN is enabled, the licensed value is allocated among the primary
and secondary operators according to the value of the "License Allocation for Multiple
Operators parameter".
Method 3#: it is recommended that the license allocation proportion of a feature be
consistent with that of the capacity license item "HSDPA Throughput-1KBPS". The
licensed values can be set by running the SET LICENSE command. If the parameter in
this command is set to AutoAssign, the licensed values are automatically allocated among
the primary and secondary operators. If the parameter in this command is set to
ManualAssign, you also need to specify the related license parameters to implement
manual license allocation.
l Other Prerequisites
– If an RF module supports only one transmit channel, two RF modules must be
interconnected to support 2x2 MIMO. If an RF module supports two transmit channels,
it also supports 2x2 MIMO.
– The UE has the HSDPA Category25 or higher capability, including HSDPA category
25, 26, 27, and 28.
Precautions
Because the downlink bandwidth for transmit diversity is twice the downlink bandwidth for non-
transmit diversity, the number of transmit diversity cells supported by a CPRI port is less than
the number of non-transmit diversity cells supported by the CPRI port.
Activation
3. (Optional) Turn on the HSDPA algorithm switch for streaming services if HSDPA is
required for streaming services. Run the RNC MML command SET
UCORRMALGOSWITCH with MAP_PS_STREAM_ON_HSDPA_SWITCH
selected in the Service Mapping Strategy Switch drop-down list.
4. Set HSDPA thresholds for downlink streaming services and HSDPA thresholds for
downlink BE services. Run the RNC MML command SET UFRCCHLTYPEPARA with
DL streaming traffic threshold on HSDPA and DL BE traffic threshold on HSDPA
set to appropriate values based on network planning.
When configuring the Flexible HSPA+ Technology Selection feature on the CME, perform a single
configuration first, and then perform a batch modification if required.

Activation Observation
1. Set the TX power threshold and HSDPA user number threshold of the secondary cell for
the DC/MIMO dynamic selection algorithm. Run the RNC MML command SET UFRC
with DL TX Power Threshold of Secondary Cell and Threshold of HSDPA Users in
Secondary Cell set to appropriate values.
2. Have a UE access the secondary cell and initiate an HSDPA service.
3. Query the DL power load of the secondary cell covered by the DC carrier group. On the
RNC LMT, choose Monitor > Monitor > UMTS Monitoring > Cell Performance
Monitoring and select Cell DL Carrier TX Power in the Monitor Item: drop-down list.
4. Check whether the value of the IE dl-TransportChannelType in the rb-MappingInfo of the
RRC_RB_SETUP message is hsdsch.
Expected result: As shown in Figure 12-3, the RRC_RB_SETUP message in the Uu tracing
result contains the mimoParameters IE when the downlink power of the secondary cell covered

MIMO increases the peak data rate per user and cell throughput. Use the following counters to
check the mean HSDPA throughput and the downlink throughput in a cell before and after
MIMO is enabled:
The peak data rate per user can only be checked in drive tests.
Performance gain in a cell because of MIMO depends on the proportion of MIMO UEs, 64QAM
+MIMO UEs, and non-MIMO UEs in the cell. The higher ratio of MIMO and 64QAM+MIMO
UEs to all UEs in a cell results in greater MIMO gains.
If the low gains are not caused by these items, check the related performance counters, such as
the ratio of MIMO UEs to non-MIMO UEs as well as the scheduling ratio of MIMO single
streams and MIMO dual streams.
