Impulse-momentum

A 5g bullet is fired horizontally into a 9kg wooden box cube, which is at rest, and sticks in it. The cube is
free to move and has a speed of 40m/s after the impact. Find the initial velocity of the bullet.

A 5g bullet is moving at 300m/s passes through a 2.0cm thick foam of plastic and emerges with a speed
of 90m/s. what is the average force impeded its motion through the plastic foam?

A bullet is fired horizontally into a 3kg block of wood suspended by a long cord. The bullet sticks to the
block of wood. Compute, the speed of the bullet if the impart of the bullet causes the block to swing
10cm above its original position.

Two identical balls collide head on. The initial velocity of one is 0.75m/s east, while that of the other is
0.43m/s west. If the collision is perfectly elastic, what is the final velocity of each ball.

Simple machines

A hoisting machine lifts a 3000kg load a height of 8m in a time of 20s. The power supplied to the engine
is 18hp. Find

a) The work output

b) The power output and power input
c) The efficiency of the machine

What is the power in Kw supplied to a 12hpmotor having an efficiency of 90 percent when it’s delivering
full rated power.

Simple electricity

An electric heater uses 10.A when connected across 110V. Determine its resistance.

A light bulb has a resistance of 240Ω when lit. How much current will flow through it when it is
connected across 160V, its normal operating voltage?

A metal rod has 4m long and 8mm in diameter. Compute its resistance if the resistivity of the metal is
(1 ×10−8 Ω . m)
A number 10 wire has a diameter of 2.50mm. How many meters of aluminum wire are needed to give a
resistance of 1.0Ω ?ρ for aluminum is (2.8 ×10−8 Ω. m)
