Professor Nathan Jackson is seeking a post-doc, MS students, and PhD students to join his research group working on developing multifunctional flexible piezoelectric materials for MEMS applications over 3 years of DoD funding. The project focuses on modifying polymers, creating polymer composites, and hybrid polymer-piezoelectric stacks. Students must be able to secure their own funding but the project can support research expenses. Interested applicants should contact Professor Jackson.

Project Title: Development of Multifunctional Flexible Piezoelectric Materials for
MEMS Applications
Assistant Prof. Nathan Jackson
Mechanical Engineering Center for High Technology Materials
I am seeking students and a Post-doc to be part of a multidiscipline team to work on a recently
funded 3-year DoD Basic Research Project. The aim of this project is to develop ground-breaking manufacturing technology to create multifunctional polymer thin film piezoelectric materials for micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) applications. The project focuses on developing flexible and stretchable polymer-based piezoelectrics by modifying bulk semi-crystalline polymers, creating 0-3 and 1-3 composite materials and creation of hybrid stacked polymer/piezoelectric materials. I am currently seeking highly motivated members to join my group. Members should have interest and experience in material science and/or MEMS microfabrication with degrees in related area. I’m seeking 1) a Post-Doc that will be the team lead on the project which will involve developing materials, characterization setup, as well as mentoring graduate students, and collaborating with PI on future proposals. 2) I am seeking multiple MS and PhD students interested in becoming a member of the group. The project can fund the students research for the 3-year duration; however, strict guidelines prohibit project funds to be allocated to fund student salary or tuition. Students with TA/GA/PA, scholarships, fellowships, or external job funding are highly encouraged to apply. US citizenship is preferred but not required If interested or want to know more information, please contact Prof. Jackson at njack@unm.edu.
