Gyeongsang National University's Department of Marine Environmental Engineering

Position Overview

The Department of Marine Environmental Engineering at Gyeongsang National University

(Tongyoung Campus) invites applications for a three-year PhD scholarship starting from the
academic year of September 2023. We seek highly driven and outstanding students interested in
membrane-based environmental engineering research.

These scholarship programs are research-centric, with an emphasis on publishing results in

esteemed academic journals. As a PhD candidate, you will participate in a government-funded
research project, with your scholarship consisting of a starting monthly stipend of 1,600,000 KRW
and full tuition fee waiver, offered through the university's scholarship program and/or the
research project. Gyeongsang National University (GNU) is a leading national institution in Korea.

Research Scope:

The selected PhD scholar will be conducting research on membrane-based carbon capture and
water purification. This involves:

1) Development of high-performance electro-spun filter membranes,

2) 2D nanomaterial synthesis,

3) Working on an electrochemical system.

Potential areas of research include:

• Membrane separation (hydrogen purification, carbon capture, and water purification)

• Bioelectrochemical systems

• Electrospinning

• Nanomaterial synthesis

• Electrochemical systems (capacitive deionization, bioelectrochemical system)

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should possess:

- A deep understanding of environmental engineering, membrane processes, chemical

engineering, polymer science, or materials science.

- Familiarity with mathematical modeling.

- Proficient English communication skills, both in writing and speaking.

- Practical experimental skills.

- Experience with programming languages such as MATLAB, PYTHON, etc., is preferred.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates with a master's degree in environmental, chemical, civil engineering, or related

academic disciplines are encouraged to apply. Non-native English speakers must provide a valid
English proficiency test score (TOEFL 530(CBT 197, iBT 71), IELTS 5.5, CEFR B2, TEPS 600, TOEIC
700, or higher).

Application Procedure:

Interested candidates should email their CV, copies of academic transcripts, and English test result
