JULY 2020

In Memoriam: Geoffrey T. Hoderath

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the death of
long-time Club member Geoffrey T. Hoderath on June 8 at
the age of 62, leaving behind his loving wife Wendy B.
Lindskoog, his sister Paula Hoderath of Long Island, and all
of us. A member of the Club since 2009, Geoffrey also
served on the Board since 2015.

Geoffrey was a joiner. He was a member of the legendary

New York City club, the Players, where he reported with
awe that one bartender could stretch the laws of physics by
mixing a martini that appeared to exceed the volume of its
glass. He sang and traveled abroad with the choir of the
historic St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Albany. He was a
member of the Wadsworth Lodge of Free and Accepted
Masons.

A frequent visitor to the Club, Geoffrey was always ready

with a story, a book recommendation, or a kind ear. If you
were a fellow caretaker of cats, he had plenty of charming
tales in that vein.

Geoffrey’s always-impeccable appearance, featuring a

strong penchant for traditional business attire – a woollen
vest even in August! – belied the fact that he was also an
avid outdoorsman who hiked countless Catskills peaks, a
joyful pastime he shared with Wendy.

A graduate of UAlbany and Albany Law School, Geoffrey

worked in private legal practice and then at the New York
State Division of Housing and Community Renewal.

Club Manager Mimi Fahy said, “Geoffrey was a huge pres-

ence at the club. On any given night you could find him
having dinner and enjoying a cocktail in the Grille Room,
except of course for Friday because that was date night with
his lovely wife Wendy. You could always rely on good
conversation his quick wit and of course that savvy ward-
robe. He will be deeply missed by anyone who had the
pleasure to know him and especially by his fellow board
members.”

Here are some thoughts from Geoffrey’s fellow UClub

Board members, all of whom also expressed shock and sad-
ness at this sudden loss, as well as prayers for strength and
comfort for Wendy, who will feel this loss most keenly.

Welcome Back! We are so thrilled that the club has re-opened. Please
know that the safety and the health of the members are the top priority.
We are following all of NYS re-opening guidelines.

For the time being there will be no access to the Grille room or the bowl-
ing alley. We will be seating in the living room, the terrace and the outside
patio. The tables are all six feet apart and we have hand sanitizing sta-
tions through out the building.

Brian our housekeeper has done a great job sanitizing throughout the day.
So we hope that you will all feel comfortable coming out and enjoying
your club once again.

We are opened for limited hours for the Summer, but will be back to regular
Monday– Friday in the Fall.
There is a new menu and we will be adding a Sunday brunch very soon.
