Executive Summary:

As you know that I have done my internship at Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
HEC was established in 1947 as University Grant Commission (UGC). President Pervez
Musharraf initiated measures to convert the UGC into a Higher Education Commission in
2002. Higher Education Commission has an Head Office that is located in Islamabad and
four regional offices that are located in Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta and in Lahore. The total
number of employees that are working in all these offices are between 800 to 850.

The first chairman of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan was Dr. Atta ur Rehman
from 2002 to 2008. Dr Javaid Laghari was the 2nd Chairman of Higher Education
Commission of Pakistan from 2009 to 2013. The 3rd chairman of Higher Education
Commission of Pakistan was Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed and now the current chairman of Higher
Education Commission of Pakistan are Dr. Tariq Banuri.

Higher Education Commission of Pakistan is service based organization. Higher Education


Commission provide number of services to different universities, students, faculty members
and as well as general public. The main services that are provided by higher education
commission of Pakistan are Degree Attestation, Equivalence Degree Issuance , PM National
Laptop Scheme, Faculty Development Programs for Universities, Grant to Organize
Seminars, Conferences and Training Workshops, etc.

The business volume of higher education commission of Pakistan for recurring grants of
Fiscal Year 2018-19 the projected budget was 63.00 billion in Pakistani rupees, the allocated
amount was 60.00 PKR billion and the released budget was 60.00 PKR billion. For
development grant for Fiscal Year 2018-19 the projected budget was 28.925 billion in
Pakistani rupees, the allocated amount was 25.7 PKR billion and the released budget was
18.925 PKR billion.

The success stories of HEC included, University admissions tripled from 135,000 in 2003 to
400,000 in 2008, During the period of 1947 to 2003 there was no Pakistani university ranked
in top 600 universities of the world. But now there are 2 Pakistani universities ranked in top
200 universities of the world, 51 new universities and institutions were established during the
period of 2003 to 2008 and 18 Campus of existing Universities were established during this
period, According to the QS world universities ranking 2013, seven Pakistani universities
became ranked in top 250 universities of Asia for the first time in the history of Pakistan.
The contributions of HEC towards economic development included, Establishment of the
best digital library in Pakistan: Every student in every Public Sector University has access to
the research monographs of some 45,000 international research journals, along with 220
international publishers, Sent top 1000 Pakistani students for the study of medicine in Cuba
and register their degrees by PMDC, establishment of 51 new universities.

There are many departments in Higher Education Commission of Pakistan namely Finance
and Planning Department, Audit Division, Human Recourse Department, Research and
Development, Sport and extra curriculum activities Division, Quality Assurance & Learning
Innovation, Degree Attestation.
The joining date of internship was 11july to 23 August. I worked in finance division of higher
education commission of Pakistan. There are two divisions of finance department one is
recurring division and other one is development division. I worked under the supervision of
Mr. Pervaiz Iqbal and Mr. Saif ur Rehman, who help me a lot in the learning of practical
knowledge.
During the internship period number of tasks assigned me are, Evaluation of the foreign
remittances cases, Data entry to the excel sheet, Scanning of vouchers from hard form to soft
form, Preparation of payment vouchers, Maintaining and sorting of vouchers, Preparation of
invoices.
After the completion of internship the skills that I thinks I gained are , time management,
communication skill, coordination, way of working. The practical knowledge is correlated to
the theoretical knowledge in some of the courses that we learn in the class room are,
management, finance, HRM, IT, and business ethics.
