Group Assignment – Case Analysis

Max: 20 points Deadline: 6th July, 2020

Please read the Case Study titled “Data Science at Target” uploaded on AIS and answer the following
questions. The figures to the right indicate the maximum points that can be awarded.
1. If you were the Vice-President of the EDABI (Enterprise Data, Analytics and Business Intelligence)
Group at Target: (8 points)

 Please list and describe the top five Use cases that you think would be most beneficial for
Target to work on.

 For each Use case, what would be the input data?

 What would be the expected output and the insight gained by the managers?

 What business question(s) would be answered by the insights and the possible actions that
could be taken by the managers at Target?
Please state the assumptions that you make.
2. You are asked to design and develop a Big Data Analytics infrastructure with detailed components that
supports the above Use Cases defined by you in the 1st part above. Design and architect a Big Data
Analytics infrastructure that would provide end-to-end support for the above Use Cases. While designing,
please pay particular attention to the following: (12 points)

 Architecture diagram

 Variety, Volume and Velocity of data

 Different modes of user interaction with the BDA infrastructure

 Analytical and BI support to Target managers and business analysts.

 Scalability and flexibility of your BDA infrastructure
