ESSAY - FINAL DRAFT

BY: Alex Marcelo Carreño

It has been said that parents are the best teachers. Do you agree or disagree
with this statement?

Our parents or the people who raised us were our first teachers and taught us
basic habits such as hygiene and respect for others. Specialists in educational
science indicate that both teachers and parents play an important role in our
learning to adapt to society and solve the problems that arise in our lives.
However, I believe that parents are the best teachers because they educate us to
develop cognitive, emotional, and social skills.

Parents help develop significant cognitive skills in the first years of a child's life.
Games that normally occur between parent and child stimulate the ability to think
ahead and mentally anticipate the correct way to execute a task. Children
generally increase their ability to remember and retrieve a word from our
semantic lexicon by listening to their parents and members of the family
environment. The tales and stories parents tell their children increase children's
ability to recall auditory information for a short period of time. The coexistence
between parents and children in the first years of life of children stimulates the
connections between neurons and activates the cognitive development of
children.

Parents take care of the emotional development of their children from birth. They
promote the child to gain self-confidence through the gestures of joy that parents
express to their children when they do something fun or cute. The loving
interactions between father and son make the child acquire a solid self-esteem.
Psychologists indicate that children develop empathy in their first years of life
because they try to understand the emotional reactions that their parents express.
Strong emotional ties between parents and children make children more
empathetic and emotionally intelligent.
Children begin their social development by interacting with their parents. Parents
are the first to impose and teach rules of coexistence and respect both inside and
outside the home. Parents teach their children to dress and care for their bodies as
they grow so that they can fend for themselves and do not depend on other
people. The language that parents teach their children helps them to socialize
with other people. Parents provide the fundamental pillars for children to adapt to
the society in which we live.

In conclusion, there is no better education than that provided by parents. It is

vitally important that parents take seriously the responsibility of being a good
role model for their children.
