Tutorial 1: Tests on Concrete materials

1. Describe the test for determine initial & final setting time of cement with dimensional
sketches. Give IS requirements for setting time of OPC.
2. Enlist the different laboratory test of cement. Explain anyone of them in detail.
3. What is the effect of fineness of cement on concrete? How can you determine in
laboratory using sieve method?
4. What is soundness of cement? Explain the testing procedure to determine the soundness
of cement with neat sketch.
5. State various types of cements & state the testing of cements as per IS & describe Std.
consistency of cement in detail.
6. Enlist the different tests of aggregates. Explain anyone of them in detail.
7. Define specific gravity of aggregate. Also explain test to determine specific gravity and
water absorption of aggregate.
8. Define workability of concrete. Which are the different methods of measuring it in a
laboratory explain any one of them.
9. Enlist the tests to measure strength of hardened concrete. Explain any one in detail.
10. Enlist the different tests of fresh concrete. Explain anyone of them in detail.
