MUSIC | LESSON 1: SOUNDS ALL AROUND US

Big Idea:
 The sounds you hear around you affect how you feel.

Essential Questions:
 What sounds make you feel good?
 What sounds bother you and make you feel bad?

Notes:
 Sound is anything you hear. It could be pleasant or unpleasant.
 Pleasant sounds are nice to listen to. They make you feel good. Some even make you hum,
move, or dance along.
 Unpleasant sounds are not nice to listen to. They bother you, they are called noise.

Performance Task 1.1:


 In an oslo paper. Instruction: Cut out three pictures of objects that create sounds that make
you hum, move, or dance along. Paste them on the object below.

Big Idea:
 You can move with music if you listen carefully and feel its beat.

 What kind of songs do you like?
 Do you like move or dance along with your favorite song?
 What helps you move along with the music?

Notes:
 Rhythm is the way beats move along in a song.
 The one sound rhythm called “da”.
 The two-sound rhythm called “di-di”.
 The quarter note (♪} is the symbol for the one-sound rhythm.
 Two eighth note (♫) are the symbol for the two-sound rhythm.

 Some songs have silent beats where no sound is heard.

Essential Questions:
 Do you notice that there are moments within a song that have no sound?
 What songs do you know have the silent beat?
 What is the purpose of the silent beat or quarter rest in music?

Notes:
 Silent beats are the beats with no sound.
 Rest means silence.
 A quarter rest ( ) receives one silent beat.

Big Idea:
 It is easy to move with a song that follows a pattern or rhythm.

Essential Questions:
 What pattern or rhythm does your favorite song have?
 Can you tell the difference between a two-beat and a four-beat meter?

Notes:
 Meter is the grouping of notes in a regular and even manner.
 Accent is the strong beat in music.
 The musical symbol for accent is <.
 A two-beat meter has one strong beat and one weak beat.
 A four-beat meter has one strong beat and three weak beats.

 Different lines are used to create art.

 Different kinds of shapes can be used to bring out an artist’s creativity.

 Pictures are drawn when different shapes are put together.

 Primary colors cannot be made by mixing other colors. They are called independent colors.
 Secondary colors are made by mixing two primary colors.

Big Idea:
 Texture makes an artwork look real and interesting.

 What are different textures?
 Can you tell the texture of an object just by looking at it?

Notes:
 Texture is how something feels when you touch it.
 The objects around you have different textures. They can be rough, smooth scaly, or grainy.
They can also be hard or soft.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION | LESSON 1: STANDING AND SITTING POSITIONS

Big Idea:
 You can do a lot of things from standing and sitting positions.

 What are the different standing and sitting positions?
 How can you maintain good posture?

Notes:
 Our body is made up of different parts that need exercise. Different positions like standing and
sitting help us to move in different ways.
 Balance means being equal in weight.
 Squatting is to lower the body into a sitting posture, supporting it by thigh muscles only.
 Striding is making a long walking step or the distance covered by such a step.
 Maintain good posture by keeping your back straight and your head up.

Big Idea:
 You can do a lot of things from kneeling and lying positions.

Essential Questions:
 What are the different kneeling and lying positions?
 What movements can you do from kneeling and lying positions?

Notes:
 Some body movements and exercises start with kneeling and lying positions.
 The kneeling position is to have both knees touch the floor.
 The lying position is when the body is in a horizontal position.
 Astride is to place one leg sideward.
 Prone means lying face down.
 Supine means lying flat on the back.
