1. PPDT:
 Picture Perception & Discussion Test

 Stages- 1. Observe 2. Noting down Details, 3. Story writing, 4. Narration,


5. Discussion.

 A picture will be shown to you- Observe (30 sec)- Note Down Character
Details & Action (1 min)- Write the story (4 min)

 Characters’ Details- Mood, Sex, Age ( order As instructed by Officer)

 Characters to be marked in a rectangular box- Consider the box as screen


and mark the positions.

 The story you have written around the characters observed by you in
picture needs not be completed.

 If you couldn’t complete the story within 4 minutes, you can complete it
while narrating the story.

 After the writing down of story, all of you will be divided into groups of 10-
20.

 Each one from the group will need to narrate his/her own story within 1
minute.

 After the last member is done with narration, you will need to discuss
about the picture among your group and reach a final consensus regarding
story.

 Your group will nominate one person to stand and explain the group's
common story to GTO.

2. TAT:
• Thematic Apperception Test
• Observing the picture for 30 seconds
• Writing a Story around characters observed.
• Each after the other, there will be total 12 slides.
• And same pattern- 30 sec observing, 4 minutes writing will go on.
• Till 11th slide, you will see a picture.
• 12th slide will be a blank slide and you will have to imagine some picture in
your mind and write a story.
3. How to Write a Better Story
 Observe the picture very well
 Before starting to write immediately, think well and make a good story
(PPDT).
 In case of TAT, you need to get the ideas immediately.
 Mark the characters, as demonstrated in the box.

 Action- Golmal (Never write a action like- A man starting Clean city
campaign)
 If many characters- Mark any 2 or 3 main characters
 If no Character- Induct it from outside ( As per Story)
 Fresh theme- especially in PPDT ( No Bookish or Coached Story)
 No –ve word- He got afraid, he bluffed…etc (X)
 Use only past tense- Stories are always in past
 No specific place or city or Institute’s name to be written ( it implies your
regional identity)
 The story should be written in such a way that what is shown in picture is
included in story ( no hypothetical story)
 Ram, Shyam, Seeta, Geeta – no such names- Use proper names ( Easiest
way is= use your friends’ names)
 No surnames to be given
 Age of your hero must be around your age.
 Hero should be of your sex.
 Never name any second character
 No mock drill or drama ( Poison picture)
 No awards or appreciation for Hero.
 No OLQ or personality trait is to be mentioned
 Don’t write your own profile or story.
 Profession and post of hero can be anyone according to the age.
 In every picture, there is a question- Find that and make a story- Mantra
to make story
 You don’t know swimming- But you can write in story that your hero knows
swimming,
 No new scientific invention
 No life threatening disease is to be mentioned ( Hero’s father had cancer )

 Don’t pull Army, Navy or Air force or NDA/ CDS in the story unnecessarily,
 Don’t create a problem by yourself (Man standing bridge- he fell down) (X)
