SUGGESTED INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN

FOR SELF-DIRECTED MODULES/ACTIVITY SHEETS

I. Title of Material/Introduction: This identifies the module or activity sheet. It may

include a brief rationale/introduction on what learners will learn. Keep it short (1-3
sentences). Use the second person conversational style (so that you are speaking
directly to the learner). Use short sentences with appropriate terminology.

II. Objectives: This must come from the Most Essential Competencies.

III. Vocabulary List: Lists and defines all of the key words and short phrases that
appear in the module. The purpose of identifying and providing simple definition of
these terms is to help learners use them appropriately in context.

IV. Pre-Test: Evaluates learner’s knowledge and skills prior to starting the module.
Provide not more than 5 items.

V. Learning Activities: Gives the learner step-by-step instructions for working

through the module and using supplemental resources. This part gives instruction
to the learner to refer to a supplemental material like a textbook, video, link to an
online material, news article, manual, etc. (if available). If not, the teacher will
provide input or explanation of a concept. Which must be done in the simplest way,
providing enough examples.

VI. Practice Task 1

Practice Task 2 Provide activities logically, from simple to complex.
Practice Task 3

VII. Post Test: Measures learner’s knowledge after completing the module. Provide
5-10 items for “paper and pencil” test. If it is a performance test, provide a rubric.

VIII. Assignments/Additional Activities—Provides activities designed to correspond

to specific objectives and that reinforce the information provided. Assignments
often require higher-level skills such as diagnosis and problem solving. They
provide an opportunity for skill practice without risking the learner’s health or safety.
Examples of assignments are: drawing or painting, writing an essay, taking
photographs/video using a mobile device, additional exercises etc. It could also be
a task which will allow the learner to apply learned skills or concepts in

real life situations i.e. household chores, development of desirable traits, taking
care of the environment, appreciation of nature etc.

IX. Answer Key—For teacher’s use; provides the key for all of the assignments and
other activities in the material. This may be included in the module or may remain
with the teacher. If there will be an opportunity to check and give feedback to the
learners, then answer keys may remain with the teacher.

NOTES:
1. The activities in the module may be taken from the Daily Lesson Plans and Session
Plans. Additional activities/materials may be provided.
2. The design of the module attempts to be adaptive to different learning modalities
(online, face-to-face, blended). The writer is given the freedom to choose or provide
activities; whatever is suitable, available and accessible.
3. This is a general design, the presentation may vary per learning area.
4. If the design is not applicable, modifications may be done or a suitable design may be
used.
