Read “Branded for Quality”, Larry Sochocki, PM Network, Jul 2005, pp 22-28

• Write a brief synopsis.Identify 2-3 major points of wisdom that you wish to consider
in your future projects and why these points.

This article deals primarily with quality preparation. Based on the article one can

understand how important planning is in planning quality with implementation of project

management methodologies. The wisdom points which I want to consider are as follows:

If quality preparation is done well in advance for something, then this job gives you good

quality results. Before starting the execution of the program, one must spend considerable

time planning out the quality of the product. The reason for this is if considerable amount

of time is not spent on the quality of advance planning, then the quality of the product

you get as the final product will not be of good quality as desired, which will ultimately

result in the team members' loss of time and morale.

For the organization a quality planning process has to be ensured. The explanation for

this is that a consistent method is developed in this way and the quality can be guaranteed

and repeated / improved for the company's product brand, which is very useful in

company development. Many senior management agree that their company's employees

have to apply the concepts of project management to quality planning in their company

projects.

A project manager has to fully understand a customer's quality requirement with respect

to the product. If this occurs the explanation is that the project manager knows and

understands exactly what the customer needs. From the customer's point of view, he can

evaluate and execute the project, and both at the same time. If this occurs then the project

manager will become the dream champion for the consumer.

Read “Q+A Diplomatic Relations - Q: How do you manage client/customer expectations? How
do you meet customers' Quality or scope expectations while remaining realistic in terms of time
and cost?”, PM Network, Jan 2003, pp 44-45

• Write a brief synopsis.Identify 2-3 major points of wisdom that you wish to consider
in your future projects and why these points.

It must be made clear to the customers that any changes in nature or project quality

impact directly on the project's cost and time-limit. Project managers can communicate

clearly to the customers the implications of these changes as soon as possible and in a

way that they can understand. If the manager is unable to grasp the effect of the transition

and express it clearly there will be no opportunity left to handle the exceptions. Both

answers need to be customized to the consumer industry so that they can understand

setting and handling the exceptions. If the issue gets its attention then the constraint of

distance, time , cost and quality can be addressed better. The key to the project's success

is determining what the customers need, rather than what they want. This helps to

determine priorities vs time for the customers and thus to get the additional budgets

required. You need to get the customer to view the trade-offs within the constraints. You

have to deviate the customer from his proposal in order to get everything and that for

better and cheaper than others – faster than others. Any project's progress depends on

how well the agreement above is being carried out.

Read “Measuring Up”, by John Buchanan, PM Network, Sep 2008, p 50-55

• Write a brief synopsis.

This article explores how to maximize project efficiency in enterprises. Project delay is

now normal in most companies, so new learning should be taken from each project and

before you start new projects. There are basically two types of interventions, constructive

and corrective. Measurements of the whole cycle for the company to improve results

should be assessed. Time is such a variable which causes many variations. The

performance matrix is such that either they are too complicated to understand or they are

really very easy to understand and provide clear performance measurement information.

That relies on the data processing system and not the data collection method. At times too

much data can lead to project failure.

• Why do projects have problems or even fail, and what metrics can be used to
measure it up?

The explanation for issue or failure is inadequate data collection and processing, and

unnecessary data sophistication. This can be calculated using predictive analysis.

• What are the lessons that Chirwan Gahun learned in his project performance
metrics?

The learning for him was that it is not only crucial to have the data for change, but it is

more important to effectively process and manage the data.

• List the benefits of applying project metrics in different organizations.

Then there are the benefits:

1. Don't make old mistakes

2. Better possibility of hitting project deadlines.

3. Plan expenses can be kept small

4. Enterprise is more competitive.

5. The company's earnings go up.
