INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the Virtual Eucharistic Conference!

This is gearing up to be the LARGEST virtual Eucharistic gathering in history. With the
conference falling on the Feast of Corpus Christi, it is so appropriate for us to experience
together what it means to be the Body of Christ.

At Virtual Catholic Conference™ (VCC) our goal is always to create massive global online
gatherings of Catholics to share and experience of their Faith over a jam-packed
conference weekend.

For the Eucharistic Conference, we saw an opportunity to focus specifically on the source
and summit of our Faith—Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. To this end, we have assembled
more than 50 presenters, clergy, and theologians to share their wisdom, insights, and
personal testimonies on the Eucharist.

We look forward to reading through your comments in the conference pages and seeing
you at our live-booths. We love that we can be ministered to as well during these powerful
weekends, and your enthusiasm and joy is your contribution to the power and impact of
this incredible weekend.

We hope you enjoy the weekend, and continue to stay in touch for future Virtual Catholic
Conferences ™.

Sincerely

Matt Ingold
Co-Founder,

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OUT OF THIS VIRTUAL
CATHOLIC CONFERENCE

1 Ask the Holy Spirit to be your MC

There's alot of content in here and alot of places to go. The Lord has
something specific in mind for you, let Him be your guide on this journey.
Say a prayer, and then browse this playbook to see what lessons you feel
called to watch and partake in.

2 Contemplation over Consumption.

There is an abundance of content here and you may feel tempted to want to
jump from talk to talk without really pondering what you have just learned. In
order for this information to be transformative for you, be deliberate about
slowing down to digest this material. We have discussion questions below
most talks. Take a moment to ponder and pray with each question.

3 Be creative with building community

Create virtual small groups for a more communal experience. Reach out to a
friend or a group of friends, agree to watch the same talks together, take
notes and then set up a conference call to discuss.

4 Make this a Retreat

Be deliberate with creating conditions to be present at this Virtual Catholic
Conference. Carve out time, turn your phone off (unless, of course, you are
watching it on your phone), make this time sacred, make it a retreat, and
enter in fully.

Welcome Message

Bishop David P. Talley

The Most Reverend David P. Talley (69) was appointed by His Holiness Pope Francis as the sixth Bishop of
the Catholic Diocese of Memphis in Tennessee on March 5, 2019, and was installed on April 2, 2019.
Bishop Talley, originally from Columbus, Ga., was raised a Southern Baptist, but converted to Catholicism
while a student at Auburn University. He was received into the Catholic Church at age 24 at Saint Mary
Church in Opelika, Ala. His family members remain Baptists, Catholics, Church of Christ, Lutherans, United
Methodists and those seeking the light of God.

After his studies at Auburn, he later obtained a Master’s degree in social work from the University of
Georgia and spent time as a case worker in Fulton County, Ga., protecting children from abuse and neglect.
He studied for the priesthood at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in Indiana and obtained a
Master of Divinity degree in 1989. Bishop Talley was ordained to the priesthood on June 3, 1989, at the
Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta, Ga.

As a Priest of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, Bishop Talley served as a Parochial Vicar, Administrator and Pastor
of a number of parishes. From 1993 to 1998, Bishop Talley studied at Pontifical Gregorian University in
Rome, Italy, where he obtained a Doctorate in Canon Law. Bishop Talley also served as Judicial Vicar of the
Tribunal, as the Director of Vocations and as Chancellor of the Archdiocese. In 2001, he was named a
Chaplain to His Holiness Saint John Paul II, with the title “Monsignor.”

One of his roles in the Atlanta Archdiocese was as chaplain to the disabilities ministry. He has said his
experience ministering among people with disabilities, which began at his first parish assignment, is key to
his spiritual life. “All they can do is ask the Lord for help. That simplicity and humility is where I think the
church should be–humble before God,” he said in an interview in 2013.

On December 17, 2012, while serving as Pastor of Saint Brigid Church in Johns Creek, Ga., Pope Benedict
XVI named Monsignor Talley an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, and he was ordained to the
episcopacy on April 2, 2013. His episcopal motto is Dabo Vobis Cor Novum, which is translated to: “I will
give you a new heart” (Ezekiel 36:26). During his time as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Atlanta,
Bishop Talley served as Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Atlanta and Director of Priest Personnel, and he
was a member of the Council of Priests and the Committee for Ongoing Formation.

Prior to his announcement in Memphis, on September 21, 2016, Bishop Talley was appointed coadjutor
bishop of Alexandria, La. and on February 2, 2017, he became the 12th Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of
Alexandria, upon the retirement of Bishop Ronald P. Herzog.

Music for the Modern World,
Rooted in the Eucharist
Aly Aleigha
"If Lauren Daigle is Chocolate and Gregory Alan Isakov is Peanut Butter,
Aly Aleigha is a Reese's Cup." In this session, Aly Aleigha and her band
share a few original songs and the Eucharistic/Scriptural references
behind her lyrics.

Bio
A graduate of Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH, Aly Aleigha is an Indie-Folk Singer/Songwriter and
Catholic Speaker from Duluth, MN. When she is not touring, Aly spends her days rock climbing cliffs that
plunge into beautiful Lake Superior or adventuring in some way. Aly's smoky voice and intimate lyrics have
held listeners captive since she began her musical career in 2015, when the Lord launched her on a journey
of spreading His message of hope, healing and joy through the release of her debut EP "Jealous Love." The
EP immediately gained traction, which encouraged Aly to form a band and release her full-length album,
“The Labyrinth” in 2016. Enrapturing listeners with her music and heart for sharing truths of the Catholic
faith, Aly Aleigha began a full-time career of Music & Speaking in 2017. In addition to touring with her
original music, she continuously leads Worship for Jeff Cavins' pilgrimages to the Holy Land, Steubenville
Youth Conferences, and the ministry Fr. Mike Schmitz. Aly and her band have performed at music festivals
alongside artists such as Bethel Music, The Newsboys, MercyMe, Sidewalk Prophets, and more. Aly is
currently working on new music and continuing to spread Christ's message of healing love, a mission rooted
in Isaiah 61:1-3 which says, "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, for He has anointed me to bring good
news to the afflicted, to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the prisoners and to set the
captives free."

Ite Missa Est

Bishop Edward Scharfenberger

We often take for granted the familiar words used in the mass. The Latin
"Ite Missa Est" often translated as "The Mass has ended," has a much
deeper meaning than we might think. If we return to the origin of the text
and look through the lens of the Saints, how might we better understand
what actually happens at the mass?

Bio
The Most Rev. Edward B. Scharfenberger was named the tenth Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of
Albany by Pope Francis on February 11, 2014, and was ordained to the episcopacy on April 10, 2014, at the
Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany by Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York.In
his six years as Bishop of Albany, Bishop Scharfenberger has been a national leader in responding to the
clergy abuse crisis. He is also a Consultor to the Pontifical Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews
and serves on the following committees and councils of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops:
National Advisory Council, Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs, Administrative Committee, Committee on
Priorities and Plans, and Subcommittee on the Church Africa.Born in Brooklyn in 1948, Bishop
Scharfenberger was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn in 1973 at St. Peter’s Basilica. He earned a
licentiate in sacred theology from the Academy of St. Alphonsus, a licentiate in Canon Law from Catholic
University of America, a Juris Doctor of Law degree from Fordham University, and was admitted to the New
York State Bar in 1991.Bishop Scharfenberger served as Judicial Vicar for the Roman Catholic Diocese of
Brooklyn from 1993 to 2002 and as pastor of St. Matthias Church in Ridgewood (Queens) from 2003 to
2014. He also served as Promoter of Justice for the Brooklyn Diocese and was a member of the Diocesan

“Lo, I am With You Always”:
Living Under the Promise of
Christ's Presence
Bud Marr
Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he promised his disciples, “Lo, I am
with you always, even unto the end of the world.” If we interpret this
promise in a wholly spiritual manner, we risk overlooking the explicitly
eucharistic character of Christ’s continuing presence among us. Only a
form of discipleship grounded in the Eucharist is capable of introducing
others to the fullness of faith found within the Catholic Church.
Bio
Ryan “Bud” Marr, PhD, is Director of the National Institute for Newman Studies and Associate Editor of the
Newman Studies Journal. He is the author of To Be Perfect Is to Have Changed Often, on Newman’s

The Eucharist: Life or Death

Pete Burak
Jesus came to seek and save the lost. Faith, repentance, and obedience
actually matter because our eternal destiny is in the balance. "Unless you
eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink his blood, you shall not have
life." (John 6:53) Jesus lovingly reveals the pathway to his Father and
gives us the necessary food for the journey. The world needs to know the
abundant power we have in the Eucharist so people can turn from
Bio darkness and live in the light of Christ.

Pete Burak is the director of id, the young adult outreach of Renewal Ministries. He is a 2010 graduate of
Franciscan University of Steubenville, and has a Master’s Degree in Theology from Sacred Heart Major
Seminary in Detroit, Michigan. Pete is a frequent speaker on discipleship and evangelization, and he is the

columnist for Faith Magazine, the host of the weekly podcast The Hour, and a member of the USCCB Young

Fill These Hearts: Growing a People
Hungry for Jesus in the Eucharist
Tim Glemkowski
We know that the Eucharist is the "source and summit" of our faith as Catholics.
It is the Real Presence of Jesus Christ, body, blood, soul, and divinity. Why is that
so hard for many Catholics to see and, even more importantly, how can the
regular reception of this amazing sacrament still leave some unchanged? This talk
will provide answers by diving deep into the Church's rich sacramental theology
to show the vital connection between evangelization and discipleship and the
subjective, transformative fruitfulness of the Mass.
Bio
Tim Glemkowski is an international speaker and author who loves sharing with Catholics the joy a
relationship with Christ brings. Over the last handful of years, through the apostolate he founded, L'Alto
Catholic Institute, Tim has worked with parishes and dioceses across the country working to build a culture
