Image characteristics
Important characteristics of images produced by
fluoroscopic television chains include signal-to-noise ra-
tio (SNR), spatial resolution, contrast, and brightness.
The SNR of a television camera system is the ratio
of the magnitude of the maximum video signal ampli-
tude to the noise inherent in the electronics of the
camera. The higher the SNR, the clearer the image.
In standard fluoroscopic television chains, the SNR
may be as low as 250:1, while low-noise Vidicon tubes
used in digital angiography provide SNRs of 1,000:1.
The SNR is usually specified in decibels.
