Symptom

Employees data is needed in the system in order to generate the corresponding Business Partners through
the S/4HANA Employee to BP synchronization.

There are doubts about the different possibilities on how to introduce this employee data.

Environment

• S/4HANA OnPremise
• SAP Fiori for SAP S/4HANA

Cause

The synchronization from Employees to Business Partners is designed as a required step in S/4HANA
systems. In order for the synchronization to work, and to subsequently generate the mentioned Business
Partner (BUP003/BBP005/BBP010 roles) it would be required to have at least a "mini master" for the
employees data, represented by a small subset of infotypes (0,1,2,3,6,7,9,17,32,105,315) stored in HCM
module.

Resolution

In an S/4HANA OnPremise system, you could either store only the employee mini-master or, on the other
hand, also store any other HCM data desired (for example as needed for payroll, etc.). Therefore there are
some possible strategies to load this employee data in the system:

• With standard replication of employees from SuccessFactors Employee Central.

For further information please refer to the corresponding guides here.
• By making a direct use of the HCM module in the S/4HANA system, either from traditional HCM
backend functionality (transactions like PA30/PA40/etc.) or from HR Renewal (Masterdata Webdynpro
Application, Roadmap forms).
For this last functionality you can refer to resources under PA-PAO component and to the following
documentation.
• Employee data could also be transferred through ALE from a source SAP HCM system (either ERP or
S/4HANA) where the original HCM data is available.
Configuration steps can be found in S/4HANA OnPremise installation guide (section Follow-Up
Activities for Human Resources) or in attached guide of note 2340095.

Alternative without a connection to HCM module, and outside of the Employee to BP synchronization
procedure:

• Since S/4HANA 1709 FP1, employee BPs (with BUP003 role) can also be created directly through app
Maintain Employees (refer to App ID F2288 in Fiori library) if no connection to HCM would be possible
or desired.
This app only works when HR functionality is switched off. Please refer to note 2570961 for details, and
if needed refer to CA-GTF-BUM component owner of this fiori app. This creation method would mean
that no PERNR will be created in the system (and therefore synchronization would not be needed) so if
the corresponding applications where you plan to use these generated employee BPs require also the
underlying PERNR data model, then using this app would not be enough and you may need to
alternatively switch on HR functionality in the system and trigger the sync. Alternatively you may also
ask the owner of those applications to add support an employee BP without HCM connection.
