FOREWORD

PETRONAS Technical Standards (PTS) has been developed based on the accumulated knowledge,
experience and best practices of the PETRONAS group supplementing National and International
standards where appropriate. The key objective of PTS is to ensure standard technical practice across
the PETRONAS group.

Compliance to PTS is compulsory for PETRONAS-operated facilities and Joint Ventures (JVs) where
PETRONAS has more than fifty percent (50%) shareholding and/or operational control, and includes
all phases of work activities.

Contractors/manufacturers/suppliers who use PTS are solely responsible in ensuring the quality of
work, goods and services meet the required design and engineering standards. In the case where
specific requirements are not covered in the PTS, it is the responsibility of the
Contractors/manufacturers/suppliers to propose other proven or internationally established
standards or practices of the same level of quality and integrity as reflected in the PTS.

In issuing and making the PTS available, PETRONAS is not making any warranty on the accuracy or
completeness of the information contained in PTS. The Contractors/manufacturers/suppliers shall
ensure accuracy and completeness of the PTS used for the intended design and engineering
requirement and shall inform the Owner for any conflicting requirement with other international
codes and technical standards before start of any work.

PETRONAS is the sole copyright holder of PTS. No part of this document may be reproduced, stored
in a retrieval system or transmitted in any form or by any means (electronic, mechanical, recording or
otherwise) or be disclosed by users to any company or person whomsoever, without the prior written
consent of PETRONAS.

The PTS shall be used exclusively for the authorised purpose. The users shall arrange for PTS to be
kept in safe custody and shall ensure its secrecy is maintained and provide satisfactory information to
PETRONAS that this requirement is met.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Please be informed that the entire PTS inventory is currently undergoing transformation exercise from
2013 - 2015 which includes revision to numbering system, format and content. As part of this change,
the PTS numbering system has been revised to 6-digit numbers and drawings, forms and requisition
to 7-digit numbers. All newly revised PTS will adopt this new numbering system, and where required
make reference to other PTS in its revised numbering to ensure consistency. Users are requested to
refer to PTS 00.01.01 (Index to PTS) for mapping between old and revised PTS numbers for clarity. For
further inquiries, contact PTS administrator at ptshelpdesk@petronas.com.my

If required, these symbols may also be used in other document. The symbols can be copied in
electronic form from Standard Drawing D16.92.013 to D16.92.024.

For symbols not found in this PTS, a simple outline should be drawn, together with a short
description of its function.

Complicated equipment hook-ups can also be represented by a rectangle (dot-and-dash line)

and it should be drawn with a reference to a separate scheme.

Certain basic symbols are only in use for PFD while other symbols can be applied in all other
documents mentioned above.

For symbols that are not adequate to indicate the type or function of an equipment, additional
notes should be added next to the symbol.

For mechanical symbols that are not available in Standard Drawing D16.92.013 to D16.92.024,
the Owner shall be consulted.

For solid handling and preparation plants, the symbols in ISO561 shall be referred and used.

4.2.3 Process Unit Numbers

Refer to Para 3.3.

4.2.4 Line Sequence Numbers

Sequence numbers for piping line numbers shall be assigned with a three-digit number
starting from 001 to 999.

4.2.5 Assigning Line Identifications

Line numbers shall be assigned for Process and utility lines from apparatus to apparatus.
When the fluid pressure, volume or temperature changes considerably, the line number shall
also be changed. As such, these changes will require a new unit number, line number or piping
class. These changes should typically be demarcated at flange connections or major branches.

Parallel lines shall be numbered separately.

For piping that crosses to another unit, either directly or indirectly on a pipe bridge, pipe track
or other interconnecting system, the line numbers shall be assigned to the corresponding unit
of origin seen in the direction of flow.

For lines originating from other sources that is entering a unit without any other identification
system, the line number shall be assigned corresponding to the unit they enter.

For utility headers on common pipe bridges or tracks not entering a specific unit shall be given
a line number corresponding to the unit of origin seen in the direction of flow.

Utility lines from utility headers entering a processing unit shall be given number(s) of the unit
it is entering.

4.3 INSULATION CODES

Codes for insulation shall be represented with a two- or three-letter code as follows:

First Letter Category tag in accordance with Table 7

Second Letter Requirement tag in accordance with Table 7
Third Letter Contact type tag (if needed) in accordance with Table 7

Category Tag Type Process Temperature Range
