4. Procedures
4.1 Introductory
Activity The teacher presents problem scenario or form of differing or opposing view, belief, or
situation shown by each set of picture and caption(Appendix A). Then. She/he instructs the
students to write their answer in a half sheet of paper.(Refer to Learning Package in Grade 7
English page 20.
The teacher asks students to draw out specific description of the problem existing in the
pictures. Students are asked to do the task by pair.
10 minutes The teacher processes the students' responses and draws students' attention to the problem
scenarios as examples of conflict.
* Allow students to give their own definition of conflict.
Then the teacher presents the objectives of the lesson for the day about stress, intonation and
pitch levels in conversation.

Have the students listen to three taped dialogues.(As alternative, the teacher may ask three
4.2 Activity pairs to read aloud the three sets of dialogue.)(Appendix B) Prior to the listening activity,
instruct the students that they need to accomplish a listening chart (Learning Package in
Grade 7 English page 21)(Appendix C). Explain the content of the chart.
Before the class discussion, have students exchange observations in pairs using their charts.
Process the responses, emphasizing that aside from words, voice quality changes when
speakers are in conflict.
Discuss the meaning of stress, intonation, and pitch levels. Then, let the students do the
15 minutes exercises on stress and intonation.(Learning Package in English 7, pp. 21-22) (Appendix D)
Ask the students with the following questions:
* How do you define stress and intonation?
4.3 Analysis * How do you express your true feelings in an argument?
5 minutes *Do stress and intonation affect the meaning of what you are going to say or express?
* How important are stress and intonation in an oral conversation? How about the levels of
pitch? Explain.

4.4 Abstraction
Explain that stress is important in achieving proper intonation. Define intonation as the rise
and fall in one‟s voice.
* When one begins with a middle pitch ending with a lower one (falling intonation), the
statement is a simple assertion.
* When one ends with a rising intonation (high final pitch), the statement indicates a question.
5 minutes * Intonation may signal giving of information in which the rise of pitch goes to the word you
want to emphasize.
* Intonation may signal grammatical coherence in which a rising pitch turns a statement into a
yes-no question

Have the students read the following lines of the poem dramatically. Let them observe the
