The following link will take you the exemplar slide show I created:

1. Software type  / reasons for my choice

I used Google Slides. I decided to use Google Slides because I was not that familiar
with it and wanted to get to know it more. I have used Microsoft’s PowerPoint and
Adobe Spark for presentations in the past but those are software packages that many
people have to pay for. With an internet connection Google Slides is free so that could
be a reason to promote it with students.

2. Artifact created / target grade/class/subject

The artifact created was an exemplar slide show for a presentation assignment on the
novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. This presentation was created for a grade 9
English class in mind. It serves as an example to help students understand expectations
before they start on their own assignments.

3. Practical applications
Being free makes this extremely practical. Within Google Slides I liked the ability to
add/insert things like images from the web.

4. Challenges using this software

Some challenges I found were some of the limitations. For example, when using the
Word Art I wasn’t given an option of what the words I typed would look like. I also
found that when adding text to a textbox I couldn’t centre what I wrote. When adding
images from the web, the images listed were limited. When I opened up a new tab and
did a quick search for images, I found many more options but then I had to copy and
paste them and bring them in to my slide show. Another challenge was trying to add
audio. You have to record it on something separate and then save the mp3 and then
add it and that’s an extra step that could be eliminated.

5. Benefits of using this software

As mentioned before, Google Slides being free is a massive benefit. It’s pretty user
friendly. A simple tour through the toolbar reveals the options available to the user.
Google Slides can really enhance a school presentation and the sharing of the link to
other users is easy.

6. Hints/strategies/tips for future use

When adding images, it may be wise to search for them in a separate window as it
seemed to provide more options. Changing the font colours is especially useful to make
any added text jump out.
