Learned:

As a science teacher I learned to keep it simple. I had so many ideas that I

realized I was having trouble narrowing them down. When I thought of an idea I kept

complicating the procedures. So I thought about what I would do in my own classroom

and simplicity was the ticket. I decided to go with an oldie but goodie. A lab that I do

every year, but embarrassingly have never tested myself. I had a blast and had the

attention of my family who kept asking “what did you get after each drop?” Science does

not have to be complicated, so keep it simple and do science.

Application of Skills Learned for the Future:

Students doing science experiments is the way to go as far as engagement and

covers a variety of higher level thinking and communication skills. When students ask a

question about something they are interacting with their world. A world where they can

provide solutions and solve problems. We work through this material all year. I love

being a science teacher...you have fun on your side.
