Content – Lesson – Indian Summer

This is a short story shared with my students about with a young girl having to make the

transition from Puerto Rico to Connecticut. She is faced with challenges with the language and

also the weather. After feeling strange about being in her new environment she is befriended by a

group of students who also come from warm climates.

Students with similar backgrounds were able to discuss and relate to how they have had the same

experiences with a family move from a tropical climate to Alaska.
