1-Explain the differences between the simple past and
present perfect.
Present perfect
Function
The Present Perfect can be used to describe something in the past
when we don’t know when it happened or when it happened is not
important.
The Present Perfect is used to describe something that has happened
many (or a couple of) times in the past.
How is composed
The present perfect is formed by combining the auxiliary verb “has”
or “have” with the past participle.
Give examples
1. I have studied.
2. He has written a letter to María.
3. We have been stranded for six days.
Simple past
Function
We use the past simple to describe an action that started in the past
and ended in the past. It could be something that happened twenty
years ago or something that happened two minutes ago. It started. It
stopped. It’s over.
How is composed
The past simple is usually formed by adding d, ed, or ied to the base
form of the verb, however, in English there are many irregular verbs
that take on a completely different form in the past tense. Some
people call this the V2 form of the verb.
