JULY 2019
NARRATIVE REPORT

It was on the month of July 2018 when Xavier University Ateneo de Cagayan informed

us that we are one of the lucky Informally Displaced Person (IDP’s) who has been chosen to be a

beneficiary of Area7 Temporary Shelter, Barangay Sagonsongan, Marawi City. On the same

month, they formally distributed the shelters to its beneficiaries, at the same time chose eight (8)

block leaders and from that they elected their block President. As the month of Ramadhan 2018

arrived, the need of the place of worship is highly significant considering that Muslims prays five

(5) times a day. Through the effort of the people of the community spearheaded by the Area 7

president, they built a temporary place of worship using tents. Specially, during the celebration

of Eid’l Adha 2018, due to the minimal space inside our Mosque, we used the open road and

cleaned it to display our carpets to accommodate the people of the community to have our Eid.

Another thing that is being oriented and emphasized to our community is the cleanliness.

Being environmentally friendly as a community is highly regarded. Through the effort of the

people of the community headed by the Area President, we cleaned the whole village, including

the canals and roads. Up until now we still practice a daily habit of cleaning inside and outside of

our shelter. As for the maintenance of the water supply of Area 7, at first, we only have one (1)

tank of water in the entire area, though it can not support the whole community to our needs for

drinking and daily hygiene we still manage to divide and consumed the water properly. Right

now, we have Three (3) water tanks in the area which serves the whole community for daily

water consumption.

Additionally, for the past months that we have been staying in the Area 7 temporary

shelter, the LGU Marawi headed by Hon. Mayor Majul U. Gandamra in partnership with CSWD
never fails to provide assistance such as relief goods and sacks of rice to the IDP’s. Some Non-

Government Organization (NGO) and even private sectors from Turkey also provided an

assistance to the IDP’s of Area 7. Bangon Marawi and of course Xavier University also

conducted a various seminar for good well being of the settlers of Area 7.

Furthermore, a basketball tournament was conducted by the LGU Marawi which was

actively participated by the basketball team of Area 7. This event was organized to promoted

peace and camaraderie among the different areas of Barangay Sangonsongan Temporary Shelter.

Of course, this event was actively joined and participated by our Area 7 president.

Last Eid’l Fitr 2018 celebration, due to the insufficient space of our tent made Mosque,

we decided to expand its area to accommodate more worshipers. Even other IDP’s from Area 2

chose to be with us during Eid’l Fitr celebration resulting to a fully packed venue. The roads

nearby the Mosque were being occupied by the gentlemen just to accommodate comers. Indeed,

it was a blissful Eid celebration.

This year’s Ramadhan 2019, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process

(OPAPP) conducted a Ramadhan Iftar held last June 5, 2019 (Wednesday) at Area 7, Temporary

Shelter, Barangay Sagonsongan, Marawi City. It was actively participated by Area 7 settlers

displaying their various Meranao cuisine. Due to the success of the event, the Office of the

Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) entrust us another fund for Eid’l Fitr 2019

celebration. They handed us a One whole Cow and cash assistance to be used for the Eid

celebration. The whole community of Area 7 helped for the preparation in cooking various

cuisine. It was indeed a memorable event for everyone for we are able to celebrate Ramadhan

peacefully and we are blessed to receive such trust from OPAPP to fund us not only one but

twice for the Iftar and Eid’l Fitr celebration.
