ROTI BANK SAMACHAR

HEALTH FOR THE HUNGRY

One year in, Roti Bank has made great strides in our food rescue missions. Just last month, our
volunteers (who are mostly young people) have managed to carry out large distribution drives to
feed the hungry and the underprivileged. This time, we paid special importance to the nutrition
factor that is often absent from the lives of the underprivileged.

With food rescue drives from Mumbai Marathon and on Republic Day, Mumbai Roti Bank has
delivered quality, nutrition-rich meals across areas often affected by hunger. If we keep this up every
month, we shall soon be well on the path to eradicating not just hunger, but also so many
socio-economic problems associated with it.

Thank you, and let’s defeat hunger together!

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS DONE RIGHT

On the 1st of January 2019,

Mumbai Roti Bank celebrated our
one-year anniversary in the way we
knew best: sharing meals with those
who are destitute and do not have
access to quality food and nourishment.
By rescuing approximately 120 Kgs of
broken rice and vegetables, which
would otherwise be wasted,
Mumbai Roti Bank ushered the
New Year in for 2,000 hungry people.
In addition to the cooked rice and
vegetables, close to 800 meals were
rescued from New Year parties the
previous day which helped our young
volunteers spread more smiles when
they served it the next day.

Two Roti Bank vans and over 20

volunteers geared up at Matunga West
(the central pick-up point) to distribute
rescued food across 9 locations in
Mumbai. Our Founder and Mentor,
Mr. D Sivanandan was present to
motivate us at the start of the event and
even joined us in serving the food.

After collection, we visited the Marol, Chembur, Tilak Nagar, Mahim, Tardeo, Shau Nagar, Indira
Nagar, Matunga and Cheeta Camp areas, delivering food to and successfully reaching our target of
2,800 people.

17K FED DURING MUMBAI MARATHON

With New Year’s Day being a total success, Mumbai Roti Bank embarked on its next mission to feed
the hungry nutritious and healthy meals.

Every year, Mumbai Marathon distributes healthy food like fruits, bananas, biscuits and energy drinks
for their participants. During long courses of running – especially a marathon – runners often need
energy-boosting food so their bodies can eke out another mile. The only downside to this is that
nutrition-rich food often goes wasted.

This year Mumbai Roti Bank, along with the support of ProCam, has rescued the leftover food from
Mumbai Marathon and distributed it among the needy. The food was collected from (spot of
collection) by our volunteers and distributed to over 17,000 people in the Dadar, Sion, Parel, Mahim,
Matunga and Sandhurst Road areas.

Special thanks to ProCam for making this feat possible!

REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS

On 26th January, Mumbai Roti Bank organised a drive along with Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital to get
diabetic patients tested for glaucoma and other diabetes-related retinal disorders.

After the tests were done, our volunteers helped distribute protein-rich, low carb, diabetic-friendly
meals made of millets and grams to all the people who got tested.

Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital successfully completed their target of free testing along with Mumbai
RotiBank's collaboration. Together, we created a record of testing and feeding 647 people in one day.
Some of that food was also distributed to 180 school children of the Talking Banyan school in Dharavi
which completed their Republic Day celebrations.

Food rescue results in health rescue: Check out how well our drive went on Facebook, Twitter and
Instagram @rotibankfdn.

5 WAYS YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE

If our cause of hunger elimination moves
your core and urges you to help out, here’s
how you can be a part of the Roti Bank
movement.

Donate Food: Roti Bank has a dedicated
number which can be reached for donating
food, whether it is from a canteen,
corporate office, wedding, party or any
place where excess usable food
would normally go to waste. At a personal
level, excess food from your home could be
passed on to your hired help or someone
nearby who you can easily access. The joy of
serving food yourself is worth experiencing.
Call 86555 80001 to donate food.

Tie-ups: In order to provide food daily, we

rely on enduring tie-ups. Organisations,
schools, mess, hospitals, temples or caterers
who would like to donate food to Roti Bank
on a regular basis could alliance with us.

Schools and Colleges: We intend to develop a network of zestful youth who share our values and will
help in spreading our reach. Students can set up chapters in their institutes and donate their time to
our cause. If they wish to, they can join our volunteering team. In addition, engineering students can
use their know-how in technology to grow our operations as projects in their curriculum. We would
also like to tap into the potential of existing and established student chapters and find synergies to
work on.

Donate to the Cause: To make our movement of hunger elimination grow manifold, monetary backing
is a boon. Donations received will help us reach more people every day as well as keep our day-to-
day operations running smoothly. Roti Bank Founder, Mr. D. Sivanandhan envisions to serve 10 lakh
(1 million) meals in the coming year, and for that, we need a bigger fleet of vehicles and more
personnel to handle the logistics. Your support can go a long way in enabling us to free many more
people from the suffocating grip of hunger.
