About Dabur India
1. Dabur India limited is the fourth largest company in FMCG sector in India after HUL,
P&G & ITC, with Revenue of Rs. 7,680 Crore & Market Capitalization of over Rs 48,000
Crore with interest in health care, personal care and Food.

2. The Origin of Dabur can be traced back to 1884 when Dr. S. K. Burman started Health care
product manufacturing facility in a Small Calcutta Pharmacy. As a result of growing
popularity, Dabur entered the specialized area of nature based ayurvedic medicines in
early 1900. Further in 1919 Dabur established research laboratories to develop scientific
processes and quality checks.

3. Dabur has established itself as the most trusted brand in India during its existence for over
133 years. It is also known to be one of the largest ayurvedic and natural health company
in the world with the range of over 250 ayurvedic and herbal products.
Dabur India's CSR Policy is inspired by the words of its founder Dr S K Burman who said
"What is that life worth which cannot bring comfort to others“, and the company defines CSR as
conducting business in ways that provide social environmental and economic benefits for the
communities and geographies where they operate.

CSR Vision
Actively contribute to the Social, Economic and Environmental Development of the
community in which it operates through sustainable measures, and ensure participation from
the community, thereby creating value for the nation.
 
CSR Mission
1. Ensure socio-economic development of the community through different participatory and
need-based initiatives and in the best interest of the poor and deprived sections of the society so
as to help them become SELF-RELIANT and build a better tomorrow for themselves.

2. Ensure environmental sustainability through ecological conservation, regeneration,


protection, re-growth of endangered plant species, and promote biodiversity.
Aim and Objective

1. To design and implement integrated rural and slum development programs for health,
education, improved nutrition and socio-economic upliftment.

2. To promote a better awareness and understanding of environmental issues.

3. To highlight the links between basic personal and household hygiene, sanitation and health.

4. To improve access to affordable, quality health services and expand medical facilities to
rural areas.

5. To introduce group vocational training programs for building income generation skills.

6. To empower communities for better control of their lives by participating in rural


development programs. Its programs are designed in accordance with the needs of the
community.
CSR Funds
The corpus for the purpose of carrying on the
aforesaid activities includes the following:
 
 2% of the average Net Profit made by the
Company during immediately preceding
three Financial Years.

 Any income arising there from.

 Surplus arising out of CSR activities


carried out by the company and also such
surplus will not be part of business profit
of the company.

As per the norm of 2% fixed by the


government for annual CSR spends, the
total CSR spend for the year is expected to
be around Rs 29 Crore.
Dabur’s Activities
The CSR activities Dabur pursues are in line with its stated Vision and Mission, and
focuses not just on plants and offices, but also in other geographies based on the needs of the
communities. The four focus areas where special Community Development programs run
are:
1. Eradicating hunger, poverty and malnutrition:
 Provision of food, nutrition supplement, clothes etc. for the poor,
children's and other deprived sections of the society. 
 Supporting nutrition in anganwadi centers and building
capacities of anganwadi workers to this effect.
 Provision of shelter for homeless.
 Promoting sanitation, making available safe drinking water.

2. Promoting Health care including Preventive: 


Through awareness programmes, health check-ups, provision of
medicine & treatment facilities, providing pre natal & post natal
healthcare facilities, prevention of female foeticide through
awareness creation, program for preventing diseases and building
immunity.
3. Ensuring environmental sustainability and ecological balance:
 Plantation drives in schools, villages, manufacturing units & business premises and other
areas in general.
 Reviving endangered plants, promoting agro-forestry.
 Protection of flora & fauna.
 Conservation of natural resources.
 Maintaining quality of soil, air & water.
 Adoption of wastelands to cultivate plants.
 Promoting biodiversity.
 Animal welfare and veterinary services.
 Technical support and Knowhow for improving farming and building capacities of small
farmers.
 Promoting alternate energy resources.

4. Employment and livelihood enhancing vocational skills and projects:


It includes tailoring, beautician, mehandi application, bee keeping, food processing and
preservation, vermi-composting and other Life Skill Training and livelihood enhancement
projects.
SUNDESH
Dabur’s CSR initiatives are driven through Sustainable Development Society or
SUNDESH, an outcome of the vision of Dabur India Ltd founder Dr. S.K Burman.

Sundesh is a registered voluntary organization with an objective of development of rural


areas, and is sworn to the mission of ensuring overall socio-economic development of the rural
& urban population on a sustainable basis, through different participatory and need-based
initiatives. Pioneered by the founding chairman Mr. Pradip Burman, Sundesh integrates
various aspects like health, literacy, employment and empowerment, to let people take control
of their lives.

It aims to reach out to the weaker and most vulnerable sections


of society such as –

1. Women
2. Children
3. Illiterate
4. Unemployed
The various CSR initiatives taken by Dabur India under SUNDESH are:

Health Care Initiatives


 Immune India

Dabur, as India’s most trusted health care company, took up the responsibility to drive
awareness on the need for immunity especially amongst children, who are the future of the
country, through the Immune India programme. For the last few years, through the Immune
India programme, Dabur has been reaching out to schools across the country to educate
students & teachers on the need for immunity. 

In 2015-16, Dabur’s Immune India programme covered schools across Delhi,


Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, and sought to spread
awareness about health and the need to build immunity to fight various flu and viruses. The
campaign, organized in association with Max Healthcare, saw doctors visiting schools across
these states to spread awareness about how to build immunity and fight diseases. During
2015-16, this initiative covered 3,000 schools across the five states, touching 300,000 kids. 
 Rural Health Care Services

The objective of rural health care is to mobilize the community and build awareness,
equipping them with adequate information, skills and confidence to access health services. It
extends primary health services to the poor and the marginalized rural people across villages at
a reasonable cost.

 Swasthya Chetna Abhiyan

The past few years have seen a surge in outbreak of flu and viruses, taking a toll on India.
In view of the rising mortality rate of diseases like Swine Flu, viral & other infections, Dabur
Chyawanprash rolled out a mega community initiative – Immune India - aimed at spreading
awareness about the need to build immunity and fight deadly viruses.

 Samajdhar Maa, Swasth Bachcha

Dabur Lal Tail has taken the initiative to make mothers in rural India more aware about
the various healthcare issues concerning their little ones. Christened 'Samajdhar Maa, Swasth
Bacha', this 60-day rural activation campaign was under taken in Chhattisgarh and Madhya
Pradesh targeting 1 lakh women in 5000+ villages and towns. The basic aim of this campaign
was to address and engage mothers of infants through a health check-up for the infant.
Skill Development Programmes
At its Skill Development Centers in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Assam
and Rajasthan, the CSR programmes run by the company provided rural girls training on various
crafts like Cutting, Tailoring, Beauty Care, Handicraft etc. The company also launched ‘Fem
Beauty Academy’ in rural Uttar Pradesh to offer Advanced Beauty Training.  As part of such
initiatives, a total of 1,011 rural girls and women were trained in FY 2019-20.

It also joined hands with NIIT Foundation to offer Computer Education and Training to
rural boys and girls in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Capability
enhancement programmes were introduced offering vocational training in Cutting &
Tailoring, Machine & Hand embroidery, Bee keeping, Mushroom farming , Mehandi
application, and Vermi-composting.
Promotion of Education

For an emerging country like India, education of


underprivileged children holds the key to its progress. In fact, their
education is vital, whether we are addressing healthcare, poverty,
population control, unemployment or human rights issues.

 Gyan Deep Kendra

Dabur, through Sundesh, runs non-formal education centers, which provide basic
education to out-of-school underprivileged kids between 6 and 14 years of age. After
completing their basic education, these children, who have either never had a chance to see a
school from inside or have been school dropouts, are encouraged to join back or enroll for
the first time in a formal school to pursue higher education. 

 School Support Programme

Dabur’s various manufacturing units and Sundesh have been supporting schools at
various locations. Dabur interventions cover health and hygiene facilities at schools such as
providing basic infrastructure, benches & desks, portable water facilities, educational aids
such as libraries, building & learning aid, dustbins etc. 
Ensuring Environmental Sustainability
and Ecological Balance

 Protecting endangered species of herbs, enhancing livelihood of farmers

Dabur has been working towards protecting endangered herbs and plant species. It has
undertaken a host of interventions across India to not just protect rare medicinal and aromatic
plants, but also enhance the livelihood of local farmers. 

 Promotion of Solar Energy

Dabur has initiated a project for providing high quality,


affordable solar solution in households for their daily uses.
Under this, it provide solar lamps to the households. These
lamps require 8 hours of solar light for charging and can be
used the whole night by the household. It is also installing
solar street lights in these villages.
Jivanti
Founded by Dabur India Limited, Jivanti Welfare and
Charitable Trust has been working towards empowering people
and enhancing their livelihood. Jivanti is the CSR arm of Dabur,
and has been helping marginalized communities develop skills to
become self-sufficient.

Jivanti has been working with marginalized farmers,


educating them on latest plantation techniques, giving them free
saplings for cultivation and entering into an arrangement with the
farmers to ensure sale of their produce. As part of its larger
community development mandate, Jivanti also supports rural
schools, providing them with basic infrastructure while improving
sanitation facilities in these institutions. It also runs several other
initiatives towards community and village development.

Jivanti also been working with local NGOs (community-


building organizations) for several of these initiatives. The idea is
to work at the grassroot level and develop partnerships that lead
to a larger positive change in the society.
SURE
SURE has been working with village communities, rolling out development processes and
programmes for several years now. It is committed to transparency and accountability while
seeking to foster community ownership of assets, funds and institutions.

SURE began its community development activities in Binjrad (70 kms from Barmer), a
remote, inaccessible area, devoid of any facilities and almost no means of communication,
electricity or transport.

SURE initially worked with women refugees from


Pakistan following the Indo-Pak war of 1971. These
women had exquisite skills in embroidery and
patchwork. In the absence of any other option for
livelihood, they were working at very low wages and were
caught in a vicious debt cycle. SURE organized these
women by holding skill enhancement programmes,
exposure visits to craft exhibitions and other NGOs.
Dabur CSR: Covid Support Initiatives
 As part of COVID support initiatives, the company supported Government’s efforts to
endure the social and economic impacts of the Corona Virus pandemic. It realigned its
CSR strategy and immediately commenced activities aimed at providing relief to COVID
patients, frontline Police, Health and Sanitation workers, migrant workers and community
members during the unprecedented times.
 The Dabur Group established a ‘Dabur Care Fund for Covid-19’, to protect lives and
livelihood, and support those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The company has
earmarked a fund of Rs 21 crore towards relief efforts, helping meet immediate needs of
those most affected by this pandemic. Out of this amount, a sum of Rs 11 crore is being
contributed to PM CARES Fund by Dabur India Limited and other entities in the Group.
 The Dabur Group provided support in three areas namely: Donation to PM CARES Fund;
assistance for those individuals engaged in frontline efforts to fight the virus; and the
support to members of vulnerable sections of the society and migrant workers, who are the
hardest hit by the pandemic.
 Employees of Dabur India Ltd also contributed their one-day gross salary towards relief
measures for Covid-19. The funds raised was donated to PM-CARES Fund. Meanwhile,
Dabur also started providing health and hygiene kits consisting of face masks and hand
sanitizers, to police personnel across the country
Other Programmes
 Waste Disposal Program which contributed towards consumer waste initiative for Multi-
layer plastic (MLP) waste disposal under Jivanti Trust.

 Tree Plantation programmes were initiated by the company under which it planted more
than 6,000 plants in the government schools and villages with an aim to build up
awareness in school children and their parents' for environment protection.

 Women Empowerment Programmes were created to promote gender equality and


women empowerment with the help of Self Help Groups where they promote saving and
loaning among the group members which eventually make them self independent and
financial literate.

 Promotion of Sports with special focus on training for rural sports, nationally recognized
sports, Paralympic sports, Olympic sports. Welfare for differently disabled persons
Setting up public libraries Reducing inequalities faced by the socially and economically
backward groups Protection of national heritage, art, culture and handicraft;
Restoration of Buildings & sites of historical importance & works of art. Welfare of
armed forces personnel, war widows and their dependents.
Approach to Implementation
Dabur strives to implement the aforesaid CSR activities on their own to the extent
possible. However, the principle implementer of the CSR activities would continue to be
SUNDESH, supported by Dabur Foundation and Dr. S.K. Burman Charitable Trust. At the
same time, Dabur recognizes the need to work in partnership with other players also.
This would include:

 Collaborating with various organization, which are registered as a Trust or a section 8


company under the Companies Act, 2013 or Society or NGOs or any other form of entity
incorporated in India that specialize in the aforesaid activities.

 Contribution to various funds which are aligned with our Vision and Mission e.g. Prime
Minister's National Relief Fund or any other fund set up by the Central Government for:
socio-economic development and relief, for the welfare of Scheduled Castes, the
Scheduled Tribes, other Backward classes, minorities and women.

 Collaborating or pooling resources with other companies to undertake aforesaid CSR


activities.
