PROVIDE INTERNATIONAL FEEDING PROGRAM REPORT 2023/2024.

Provide International has been lucky over the past one

year to feed more than 500 hungry children in Korogocho
slums each day through the sponsorship from Prime
Bank Ltd. Korogocho is among the most notorious slums
and impoverished areas well known for its high
incidences of malnutrition, typhoid, cholera, malaria and
even crime. It has no flora or fauna. The maze of
shanty's, garbage and waste is void of gardens, green
trees or even an organized play area for children.
Here, it is survival for the fittest.
1
Korogocho is one of the largest urban slums on the African Continent, located about
five kilometers outside of the capital city, Nairobi. Malnutrition afflicts countless
children. They endure diseases and sickness. Parents remain idle throughout the day
as there are no jobs to generate income. Children scavenge for food at the nearby
dumping sites just to reduce the biting hunger. More than a thousand children who
call Korogocho slum home, walk across refuse and rubbish each day to Provide
International feeding Centre. Here, our staff greet them and lovingly provide them
with a nutritious meal. In an environment where very few things are stable, our
supported kids know that they can count on at least one meal a day. Thanks to Prime
Bank limited for their unwavering support.

Mr. Amar Kantaria, C.E.O Prime Bank Ltd. clearly understands the challenges in
the slums and more so what vulnerable children undergo and willingly accepts our
call to support the feeding program at Provide International.

“Our feeding program in Korogocho slums is now doing amazingly well.
CONGRATULATIONS TO PRIME BANK!

A community health volunteer recently expressed concern about a young girl living
in Korogocho Slum who kept fainting from hunger during school. She has been
enrolled in our feeding program where she receives one nutritious meal per day.
According to the headmaster of the school, she improved dramatically within three
months. She is healthy, well and she is performing at the head of her class.”

“We see marked improvement in energy levels and wellness after a child has only
been on a feeding program for ten days. The children benefit greatly from our life-
saving feeding programs,” said Caroline. (CHV).

In the face of numerous health challenges around the world, there is a growing need
for comprehensive programs that address not only medical needs but also the socio-
economic well-being of individuals and communities. One such program making a
significant impact is the " Nutrition and Livelihood Program."
3
Thanks to many donors who have seen this course as very important in saving many
livelihoods and ensuring that every life matters.

Much more appreciation goes to the chairman Sri Ayyappa Seva Temple for their
big effort in donating assorted foodstuffs, clothing and educational materials for
vulnerable children and families in Korogocho.

The concerted efforts of Mr. Gopa Kumar -Corporate Business Director (Prime
Bank) is overwhelming and has achieved great results in improving food security
and healthier families through food donations to vulnerable households. such
innovative ideas and well-articulated initiatives combined with nutritional education,
sustainable livelihood opportunities, and community empowerment will
automatically foster good health and prosperity among the vulnerable populations
living in the slums.

Addressing Nutritional Health by both local administration and county
government:

The foundation of our Nutrition and Livelihood Program at Provide International

lies in addressing the critical issue of malnutrition, especially among marginalized
communities. This was applauded by both Nairobi regional commissioner Mr. Katee
Mwanza and Nairobi Governor Mr. Johnson Sakaja during their visit to Provide
International for food distribution exercise to the vulnerable households last year.

Through targeted nutrition under education plan, individuals will gain knowledge
about balanced diets, healthy food choices, and proper meal preparation. Provide
International is doing their best by equipping community members with basic

nutrition skills in the program in order to promote healthier lifestyles, reduced rates
of malnutrition, and improved overall health outcomes.

Sustainable Livelihood Opportunities: over 200 single mothers enjoying services.

Recognizing that economic stability is closely intertwined with overall health and
well-being, our Nutrition and Livelihood Program goes beyond nutritional education
and feeding program. It actively promotes income generation and sustainable
livelihood opportunities for participants. So far, we have registered over 200 single
mothers in table banking program through the partnership of Joyful women.

By empowering single mothers with business skills and access to resources, the
program enables them to create their own paths to economic self-sufficiency said
Madam Susan Mang’eni. This multifaceted approach aims to break the cycle of
poverty, reduce dependency, and enhance the long-term prospects of individuals and
communities. The mothers who have joined table banking groups have started
receiving revolving loans to support their businesses courtesy of Prime Bank and
Joyful Women.

Community Empowerment and Collaboration:

The success of our Nutrition and Livelihood Program hinges on community

empowerment and collaboration. The program actively involves community
members in the planning, implementation, and evaluation phases, ensuring their
ownership and sustainability.

By fostering a sense of ownership and active participation, the program encourages
community members to take responsibility for their own well-being. Additionally, it
creates a platform for collective problem-solving, fostering social cohesion, and
strengthening community bonds.

communities we serve. By systematically measuring success, the current feeding
program has shown a very big impact in the community and even attracting
individual donors for further support. It has really served as a model for other
similar initiatives.

Conclusion and final recommendations:

integrated approaches in addressing complex health and socio-economic challenges.
By combining nutrition, education, sustainable livelihood opportunities, and
community empowerment, the program not only improves the health and well-being
of individuals but also paves the way for sustainable development and poverty
reduction. As we continue to strive for a healthier and more equitable world,
initiatives like our Nutrition and Livelihood Program offer hope, empowerment, and
the promise of a brighter future for vulnerable communities worldwide.
