INTRODUCTION
u GEETA MANDIR BUS TERMINALS IS A UNIQUE ADAPTIVE
REUSE PROJECT – ONE OF THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN INDIA’S
INFRASTRUCTURE SECTOR – AND INCLUDES THE
REDEVELOPMENT OF AN EXISTING BUS TERMINAL
LOCATED IN THE HEART OF THE AHMEDABAD.
u IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE HISTORIC POL AREA (ALSO
CALLED THE OLD CITY), THE DEVELOPMENT HAS TWO
COMPONENTS: A BUS TERMINAL FACILITY, AND A MIXED-
USE SALEABLE AREA TO BE OPERATED AND MAINTAINED

u THE BUS TERMINUS DESIGN INCLUDES RESOLUTION AND
DETAILING OF ARRIVAL AND CONCOURSE ZONES,
PASSENGER REST AND F&B AREAS, ADMINISTRATIVE
OFFICES, OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATION FOR
EMPLOYEES AND OFFICER REST ROOMS. THE
COMMERCIAL COMPONENT INCLUDES THE RETAIL UNITS
AND OFFICES WHICH ARE GROUPED IN 4 ZONES
FORMING THE PRIMARY PUBLIC FACE OF THE
DEVELOPMENT.
u THE FORM IS INSPIRED BY THE NOTION OF CONSTANT
MOVEMENT. THE FACADE DESIGN CREATES A STRONG
HORIZONTAL EXPRESSION, WITH CONTINUOUS SHADOW
LINES HOLDING THE FORMS TOGETHER AND
CONNECTING TO EXISTING CONTEXT, THUS
ACCENTUATING THE IDEA OF MOVEMENT.

u THE COMMERCIAL COMPONENT INCLUDES THE RETAIL
UNITS AND OFFICES WHICH ARE GROUPED IN 4 ZONES
FORMING THE PRIMARY PUBLIC FACE OF THE
DEVELOPMENT.
u THE PRIMARY FAÇADE DESIGN INTEGRATES
NECESSARY FUNCTIONAL ASPECTS, WHILE PROVIDING
HIGH LEVELS OF SHADING AND VENTILATION, WHICH

MUTED PALETTE ARE BOLD COLOURED VERTICAL FINS

u USE OF GLASS SHALL BE MINIMAL TO REDUCE
LOAD ON AIR CONDITIONING AND ELECTRICITY
CONSUMPTION AND TO REDUCE THE HEAT
ISLAND EFFECT.
u ROOF SHOULD MEET REGULATORY REQUIREMENT
AS PER ENERGY CONSERVATION BUILDING CODE
BY USING APPROPRIATE THERMAL INSULATION
MATERIAL TO FULFILL REQUIREMENTS.

u MAIN ENTRY AND EXIT SHALL BE SEPARATE AND CLEARLY MARKED IN


THE FACILITY.
u THE PLANNING, DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF ALL BUILDINGS
SHALL BE SUCH AS TO ENSURE MAXIMUM SAFETY FROM FIRE OR ANY
SUCH DISASTERS / UNFORESEEN SCENARIO.

CASE OF POWER FAILURE & EMERGENCY OF FIRE WATER PUMPS.
u NECESSARY AUTO GLOW SIGNAGE AT ALL APPROPRIATE PLACES
SHALL BE PROVIDED TO GUIDE THE PEOPLE TOWARDS EXITS AND
ASSEMBLY POINTS DURING POWER FAILURE & OTHER EMERGENCY.
u OUT OF THE TOTAL WATER REQUIREMENT OF 2799 KL/DAY DURING
OPERATION PHASE, FRESH WATER REQUIREMENT OF 1253 KL/DAY
SHALL BE MET THROUGH WATER SUPPLY FROM THE AMC AND REST OF
WATER REQUIREMENT SHALL BE FULFILLED THROUGH RECYCLED

u WHILE CONSTRUCTION A 400 YEAR OLD 15 FT TALL MUGHAL ERA
HERITAGE WALL AND GATE HAD BEEN DEMOLISHED AND HAD BEEN
FINED RS. 25 LAKH BY AMC.
u LEAKS THROUGH THE ROOF OF AC WAITING AREA. HENCE IT HAD
BEEN CLOSED AND WAITING FOR MAINTENANCE.
