3rd International Workshop on Inclusive Finance
November 1, 2014, XLRI Jamshedpur
As part of the 3rd International Workshop on Inclusive Finance that will be held during October
31-November 2, 2014, (event details at http://inclusivefinance.in/events.html), XLRI
Jamshedpur and the Citi India announce a national level competitive challenge on
“Innovations in Financial Literacy and Consumer Protection” to bring forth new ideas for
access2finance at the bottom of the pyramid.
The competition aims at engaging young minds from business schools, engineering institutes and
departments of humanities and social sciences to design and demonstrate innovative ideas in
financial literacy & protection of underserved communities.
What you should do to participate:
1. Form a team of 3 members
2. Create an innovativeidea on "Financial Literacy and Consumer Protection".
3. Submit a two-page abstract of your idea. Make sure it includes the date of project initiation,
the project context, and the reasons for lack of access, how you will measure the project’s
social impact, and the specific role of an institution such as a bank, two photos of the
locality/community, other details of as annexures.
4. Validate your ideas with our mentors(after the first round, when you are selected).
5. Present your idea to an NGO/Microfinance institution/community based institution, for
feedback and potential implementation. Discussion with an NGO/MFI is mandatory.
6. Prepare an approach paper and complementary communication material including a 2-3
minute video of the locality/community (final submission).
7. Present your paper and video at the XLRI event on Inclusive Finance, in the presence of
experts and delegates, on November 1, 2014, and win prizes and certificates.
Prizes for the winning Team (along with certificates given individually):
1st Prize: Rs 60,000/-; 2nd Prize: Rs 40,000/- & Special recognitions (4) @INR 15,000 each.
Your target population should be the unbanked who lack access to formal financial institutions
and/or are unable to access formal financial services (e.g. savings, credits and insurance).
Important dates:
Sep 30, 2014 : Deadline to submit the two-page abstract of your innovative idea. This is
mandatory for participation and should be sent via email to ifc@xlri.ac.in
Oct 2, 2014 : Confirmation of proposals that are selected
Oct 18, 2014 : Final submission deadline for the selected proposals
Nov 1, 2014 : Finalists present their paper at the event at XLRI Jamshedpur
(http://inclusivefinance.in/events.html)
