Skeletal System Concept Map

The human skeleton consists of 206 bones that provide structure, protect organs, and produce blood cells. The skeleton is divided into the axial skeleton of 80 bones including the skull, spine, and rib cage, and the appendicular skeleton of 126 bones including the arms, legs, shoulder girdle and pelvic girdle. Bones are made of compact and spongy bone and bone marrow. Joints connect bones through ligaments and allow different types of movement. Diseases like osteoporosis, leukemia, and osteoarthritis can affect the skeleton.
