Introduction
Observing changes in the local environment is a key component of biosecurity. Individuals can get
involved by conducting surveillance and reporting findings to local pest and disease experts and
organisations. This resource has been developed to encourage everyone to report observations of any
common, interesting or possible exotic pests as well as the absence of pests around the world.

Your task is to visit your garden or local park and report on something that looks unusual. This could be a
weed, plant pest or plant disease. Please do not make up something that does not exist. All you need is the
two-page template below, a keen eye for detail and a camera or camera-phone to capture a photograph.

It’s time to do your part to protect the environment and economy and do some pest surveillance!
