Topic: What are the Characteristics of a great general manager?

A great general manager is one who is clear on their organization goals. He/she is able to best
utilize the abilities of the team but does not commit to goals that are unachievable. They are able to
successfully run a company. They possess a skillset that can be broken down to characteristics such as
leadership , management, command and control qualities.
Great leadership drives the aspects of a company, such as moral, discipline and team spirit.
Leadership helps to guide, coach, and motivate the people to do their best throughout their entire
employment. To be a great leader you are supposed to have satisfied employees assisting willingly
towards the organization future goals.
Management's primary focus is on the conceptual side of the business, such as planning,
organizing, and budgeting. Management allocates the resources and helps to organize the activities that
will make it a reality. This is normally a continuous process, rather than a single activity. It is classed as
a long term goal towards the company or division.
However most assumes that command is simply telling others what to do, however it goes way
beyond that. Command is the understanding of a vision to the organization in order to achieve a goal. It
does this by formulating a well-thought out vision and then being able to clearly communicate it.
Command stresses on success and reward. This just means, in order for team members/employees to
reap benefits, they need to work on the companies long term goals.
Control is the strategy used to establish and provide structure in order to deal with uncertainties.
Visions normally produce change, which in turn produces tension. These uncertain outcomes causes
tensions that leaders must deal with so they do not delay or prevent growth in the organization. This is
completely different to what most people think control means in a company or organization.
Therefore these four characteristic portray a great general manager. This is also what creates a
pillar to an organization. Being able to provide leadership, management, command and control to a
company ensures the success for both company and team-members
