ALM 15 - Import Test Cases

Overview
The purpose of this instruction is to provide step-by-step guidance on how to upload test cases to ALM from an
Excel spreadsheet using the Micro Focus ALM Microsoft Excel Add-in.

1. ALM – Test Case Excel Upload


Step Action

1 Open the completed Test Case Template (Excel file) with the prepared test cases.

Note: A blank template is located on POWER under the Testing CoE, Testing Template Folder,
under Strategy, Cases and Other Templates, and is called the HPALM Test Case Creation
Template. An example is below; it can be accessed along with instructions and an example,
by clicking this link: Test Case Creation Template .

2 (See a copy of the filled in example below):

3 Go to the ‘Import –QA Lead Only’ tab at the bottom.

4 Review the completed test cases to ensure that all of the required fields are populated, and that
there are no error messages displayed.

5 Fill in the ‘Test Case Root Path’ with the file folder structure desired in HPALM (for example: “3.0
Integration Tests \xxxxxx xxxxxx”).

6 Click “Micro Focus ALM Upload Add-in.”

7 Select “Login.”

8 Enter values for “Address,” “Name,” and “Password” and select “Authenticate.” Then select a
“Domain” and “Project” and click “Login.”

9 Click “Micro Focus ALM Upload Add-in” then “Mapping.”

10 Select “Tests” for Entity Type and deselect “Add or update ALM field label as header to Excel” since
the Excel already has headers.

11 As required, complete/review all fields by highlighting the appropriate item in the column on the left,
and then clicking on the right-facing arrow to move it into the right list of fields.

12 All of the fields should be mapped to the appropriate Microsoft Excel Column Designations, using
the fields and the order below:

13 Select “OK” when done mapping.

14 Highlight the data to be uploaded into HP ALM (rows that have been populated with data, do not
include headers).

15 Click “Micro Focus ALM Upload Add-in” then “Validate” to validate the data.

16 Wait for the validation to complete then click “OK.” Fix any errors before continuing to the next step.

17 With the rows still selected, click “Micro Focus ALM Upload Add-in” then “Upload to ALM.”

18 Wait for the uploading to complete then click “OK.”

19 To verify that the upload was successful in MFALM, click on the folder you imported the test cases to.

20 Verify the test cases where successfully imported with the correct steps.

Note: In order to execute testing, the test cases will need to be moved from the Test Plan to the Test Lab. See
the how to documentation called “Create a Test Set and Copy Test Cases into Test Lab”.
