The document provides a progress report on a project to fabricate a biodegradable plastic material. Starch is collected and extracted from its granular structure through solubilization to use as the polymer. A bio-based plastic is being prepared that is derived from biomass as an alternative to petroleum plastics. The plastic is created by mixing starch powder with water and glycerol, heating the mixture, pouring it onto foil, and allowing it to dry for two days. Remaining work includes mechanical testing of the plastic's tensile properties and shaping it through injection molding. The project is scheduled to be completed by March 20th, 2020.

Starch, in its native form, is a granular structure. This form of
starch is incorporated into plastics as a type of filler. In order to use starch as the polymer for a bioplastic application, the polymer structures amylose and amylopectin are extracted. Extraction occurs by disrupting the granular structure by solubilization of the starch granules in water at elevated temperatures, called gelatinization.
TYPE OF PLASTIC BEING PREPARED
A bio-based polymer is used for this plastic which is derived fully or in part from biomass or microorganisms as an alternative to petroleum plastics. Many of these polymers are commonly referred to as bio- plastics. A bio-plastic is similar to a conventional plastic, like polypropylene, in the fact that it is used to make commercial products. PREPARATION OF PLASTIC
After selection of starch and grinding it into powder.
Take 120 ml of water in a beaker and mix the starch thoroughly Heat the beaker and add 10-12 ml glycerol while stirring it continuously Pour this solution on aluminum foil evenly Keep the solution on foil dry for 2 consecutive days to obtain bio-plastic
REMAINING WORK
Mechanical testing for its tensile properties under ADMET
eXpert 2611 Testing machine. Extracting it into required shape by using Injection molding.
Completion of project: The project will be completed by the date 20th march 2020.
