Textbook: Daniel and End Time
Chapter#: 5

The following are the things I’ve learned from the commentary:

1. “Belshazzar knew all about the happenings in the life of his grandfather, Nebuchadnezzar, yet it made
no impression on his pride. Defiantly he returned to the worship of idols and all the pagan festivals.
Under his foolish rule, mighty Babylon, built at so great by his fathers, was soon to fall.”

2. “God expects us to learn the lessons of the Bible, history and even what our parents and grandparents
have learned in their experience.”

3. “The prophet of Isaiah wrote this prediction hundreds of years before Cyrus was born and told just
how the city of Babylon would be captured.”

4. “There was a shining bloodless hand, writing high up on the wall where all can see. The words it
writes shines like fire.”

5. “Daniel wasn’t impressed by the promises of rich rewards.”

6. “Before Daniel reads the writing he tells Belshazzar just what he should have remembered and never
forgotten.”

7. “Just a short time after Daniel pronounced the sentence of God on the wicked and foolish king; the
soldiers entered the banquet hall and killed Belshazzar.”

8. “To live of self is to perish. Covetousness, the desire of benefit for self’s sake, cuts the soul off from
life. It is the spirit of satan to get, to draw to self. It is the spirit of Christ to give, to sacrifice self for the
good of others.”

9. Daniel read out the writing on the wall to the haughty monarch whom he rebuked, it said, “it was the
doom of one and all, for the kingdom was now finished.”

10. “Our deeds are recorded”, there’s a hand that’s writing all our deeds.

Reflection:

The 5th chapter of the book of Daniel reminds me that the lessons and experiences of our elders
have so much meaning and would be a great help to each one of us as we continue living in this
temporary world waiting for God’s soon return. It is very important to take heed to each of their advices
because they know what’s best for us and they learned many things in the past and it is very wrong to
disobey their counsels when we knew that those were a big help to live a christian life. Let us not be
impressed and be tempted by the world’s riches because everything we are seeing in this world are all
temporary and true richness can only be seen to our only one Savior. And we can only do that by
submitting our all to our Lord, Jesus. Let us not wait that all of the writings we can see in the wall written
by a bloodless hand and shines like fire are all the sins we have committed against God. Let us see to it
that everything we do today will be a light to those who are still in the darkness, that someday God will
be able to tell us “Good job, my child.”
