Installation Instructions for Digitizer Software


ARC_2012* and higher Versions

NOTE:
Register a software upgrade in the local service management system as modification,
e.g. in SMS as “MOD”.

1 Introduction

This document provides following instructions:

2 Software installation via USB Flash Drive

The software upgrade via USB flash drive is performed in following steps:

2.1 Checking current software version

(1) Open the browser on the NX Step 3: Click iexplore.exe

(2) Enter the IP address of the Digitizer
in the address window. If the
Digitizer IP address is not known,
see the appendix on page 15.

2.2 Uninstalling the Error Viewer

(1) At the NX workstation log-off


the current user.
(2) Log-in as service user (e.g.
crservice).
(3) Right-click on the Error
Viewer icon in the task bar.
(4) Exit the Error Viewer.

(5) Select: Start > Control


Panel > Programs and
Features
(6) Click Error Viewer and
confirm message to uninstall
the Error Viewer.
(7) Wait approx. 15 seconds until
the Error Viewer
uninstallation is finished.
(8) Close the Programs and
Features window.

2.3 Preparing the USB Flash Drive

(1) Switch off the Digitizer.


(2) Insert the Digitizer USB flash A POWER

drive in the service PC.

(3) Extract the downloaded zip file into a folder on the Service PC.
Contents of the ZIP file:
 Software package ARC_2012.zip (or higher version)
 This document
 Depending on the software version a readme.txt

(4) Extract all files from ARC_2012.zip*.


Folder ARC_2012* is created automatically.

(5) Copy the folder ARC_2012*


and its contents to the root
directory of the USB flash
drive.

DO not delete any file on the


USB flash drive. The files on
the USB flash drive are
required for operation of the
Digitizer.

(6) Go to folder ARC_2012* on the USB flash drive.

(7) Double click on: Prepare_Installation.cmd


 A DOS Box opens for a short time.
 The file startup.com is written to the root of the USB flash drive.
(8) Release the USB flash drive from the Service PC.

2.4 Performing the software installation

IMPORTANT:
Do not switch off the Digitizer during software installation as the PMI and Power Board
are re-programmed during the software installation procedure.

(1) Insert the Digitizer USB flash


drive in the Digitizer. B POWER

(2) Switch on the Digitizer:


The Digitizer boots from USB
flash drive and installs
software.
(3) Wait until the Digitizer LED is
fast red blinking or green.
This takes approximately 1,5 A
minutes.

NOTE:
The Digitizer LED activity sequence during software installation is as follows:
 Slow Red blinking: Approx. 30 seconds
 Off: Approx. 10 seconds
 Slow red blinking: Approx. 40 seconds
 Fast red blinking or green*: After approx. 80 seconds
* Digitizer LED only gets green if the right Error Viewer is installed. If the Digitizer software does not detect
the Error Viewer or detects a version that does not fit, the LED is fast red blinking.

2.5 Installing the Error Viewer

(1) Start the browser at the NX 192.192.192.192 B

(7) Keeping the default settings, follow
the further instructions of the wizard.

NOTE:
 By keeping the default settings of the Error Viewer installation wizard it is
guaranteed, that the Error Viewer access rights for the different Windows users
(administrators / users) are set properly. See Figure 10 and Figure 11.
 Between 1 to 15 seconds after installation of the Error Viewer the Digitizer status
LED turns green.

2.6 Creating a Backup

(1) In service menu Backup


select Complete backup
and Save to USB Digitizer.

2.7 Verifying the software upgrade

Part 1: Checking the software version in the service user interface:


(1) In the Digitizer service user interface go to menu: Device Info
(2) Check, that the installed software version is displayed.
If the software update failed, the reason may be an USB flash drive which is not
readable by the Digitizer. In this case install the software via browser.
See chapter 3.
(3) Select menu Logout and confirm the service intervention.
(4) Close the browser.

Part 2: Functional check:


(1) Switch off/on the Digitizer.
(2) Insert cassette with unexposed IP in the Digitizer.
(3) Identify the cassette.
(4) Confirm that the image arrives at the NX workstation.
(5) Reject the image.

Result The Digitizer software is updated.

3 Software installation via browser

NOTE:
Software upgrade via browser can be performed from any PC in the network.
It is tested with Firefox and Internet Explorer.

(1) Uninstall the Error Viewer. See section 2.2.


(2) Extract the downloaded zip file into a folder on the Service PC.
Contents of the ZIP file:
 Software package ARC_2012.zip (or higher version)
 This document
 Depending on the software version a readme.txt
(3) Copy the software ZIP file ARC_2012.zip* from the Service PC to the PC
in the network.
(4) Open the browser.
(5) Enter the IP address of the Digitizer in the address window. If the IP address is
not known, see the appendix on page 15.
(6) Enter username and
password.
(7) Check the current software
version.
(8) Select menu: Software

(9) Browse for the software ZIP file ARC_2012.zip (or higher version).
(10) Select: Upload and Install Software
(11) Wait until the Digitizer reboots automatically and the Digitizer LED turns fast red
blinking or green*. This takes approximately 1,5 minutes.
(12) Install the Error Viewer. See section 2.5.
(13) Create a backup. See section 2.6.
(14) Verify the software upgrade. See section 2.7.

4 Software installation incl. formatting

NOTE:
Software installation incl. formatting of the flash memory on the PMI board is required
only, if a Digitizer error description instructs to do so.
It can be used to perform a normal software update or upgrade, too.

(1) On the NX workstation: Uninstall the Error Viewer. See section 2.2.
Note, that on other workstations (e.g. SE 2.0 or higher) it is not required to
uninstall the Error Viewer.
(2) Extract the downloaded zip file into a folder on the Service PC.
Contents of the ZIP file:
 Software package ARC_2012.zip (or higher version)
 This document
 Depending on the software version a readme.txt
(3) Extract all files from ARC_2012.zip*.
Folder ARC_2012* is created automatically.

(4) Copy the folder “ARC_2012“*


and its contents to the root
directory of the USB flash
drive.

(5) Go to folder “ARC_2012”* on the USB flash drive.

(6) Double click on Prepare_Formatting.cmd. See also NOTE below, if the


Digitizer is connected to SE Suite.
 A DOS Box opens for a short time.
 The file startup.com is written to the root of the USB flash drive.

(7) Release the USB flash drive from the Service PC.
(8) Perform the software installation. See section 2.4.
(9) Install the Error Viewer. See section 2.5.
Note that this step may not be performed if the Digitizer is connected to SE.
See NOTE below.

NOTE:
If the Digitizer is connected to an SE suite workstation, download following file from the
Agfa HealthCare Library: SE Image Management > SE Image Management >
SE Suite 2.0 > Software > SE_2.0_SW_Digitizer_CR10_CR12_Installation.ZIP.
This ZIP file contains a file Prepare_Configuration_for_SE.cmd.
Instead of installing the Error Viewer proceed as follows:
 Copy file Prepare_Configuration_for_SE.cmd to directory ARC_2012* on the
Digitizer USB flash drive.
 Double-click file Prepare_Configuration_for_SE.cmd
 Boot the Digitizer with the USB flash drive: Now the Digitizer is prepared for the
Error Protocol which is implemented in SE 2.0.

NOTE:
After software installation including formatting the Digitizer LED will usually not get
green. Reason: The destination information is reset to default. The up-to-date
destination information is only available after restoring the latest backup.

(10) In service menu Restore


select Read from USB
Digitizer or Read from PC
(depending on where the
backup file is available) to
restore the latest backup.

See the IMPORTANT note


below if no backup is
available.
(11) Reboot the Digitizer.
(12) Verify the software
installation. See section 2.7.

IMPORTANT:

The backup is a file with following syntax:

BAC_CR10-5151_<Subtype>_<DigitizerSN>_<DDMMMYYYY>_<HH-MM-SS>.zip
Or
BAC_CR12-5151_<Subtype>_<DigitizerSN>_<DDMMMYYYY>_<HH-MM-SS>.zip

If the backup is not available, the Digitizer configuration is lost.


Exception: The Digitizer network settings are still available as they are stored in an
EPROM on the PMI board.
In this case it is required to perform the Digitizer configuration. For details refer to the
Digitizer Service Manual, Document ID 42866196, chapter “4 Installation and
configuration”.

5 Appendix

5.1 Looking up the Digitizer IP Address

If the Digitizer IP address is not known, proceed as follows:

Possibility 1: Via browser history list


(1) Start the browser.
(2) Press 'Ctrl + Shift + H' to get the browser history list:
The IP address of the Digitizer should be in the list.
Possibility 2: Via NX configuration tool
(1) Double-click the icon Start NX Configurator on the desktop.
(2) Select: Load active configuration
(3) Go to: Devices > Digitizer Configuration
This page shows the Digitizer IP address.

(4) Quit the NX Configurator by closing without saving any changes.
