process automation libraries and their implementation. The impact of emerging products on the development of these standards
will also be addressed.
3 CSE-03 Driving Profitable Maintenance Improvements: DuPont Case Study
Ted McKenna, ABB
Dave Reynolds, ABB
By attending this presentation, you will learn about important improvements achieved by DuPont using ABB Reliability Services.
The presentation will be led by the ABB Reliability Services consultant responsible for this particular project.
4 CSY-05 Engineering for Maximum Performance with System 800xA
Kim Fenrich, ABB
At this demonstration, you will learn how System 800xA’s integrated engineering environment helps reduce overall engineering
costs and improve operational performance. The primary focus for this session will be on engineering features that streamline the
engineering workflow, enable efficient reuse of best practice solutions, and facilitate continuous improvement. In addition,
customer applications of 800xA’s engineering features will be highlighted.
DAY 2 (WEDNESDAY, MAY 10)
5 WSE-04 Control Loop Optimization Services
Larry Andrews, ABB
Ted Matkso, ABB
At this workshop, you will learn more about individual control loop tuning and how it contributes to the overall plant performance.
ABB offers automated tools to tune and monitor PID loops in ABB and third party control systems. These tools can be enhanced
with scheduled on-site and/or remote services. ABB Loop Performance Manager (LPM) is the foundation for this capability. LPM
tuning software provides the ability to tune PID loops, including complete cascade and feed-forward configurations. LPM auditing
software reports loop performance as well as the physical condition of the process hardware. Secure remote access completes
the support picture by providing expert assistance at a moment's notice.
6 WIA-06 HART Technology Update – What’s New!
Ed T. Ladd, Jr., Hart Communication Foundation
During this session, you will be informed of the recent improvements for integrating HART into your automation system and the
direction of future enhancements to the HART Technology. HART is the number one communications protocol in the process
automation industries. The HART Technology has over 20 million devices installed from hundreds of manufacturers, all
interoperating and working together to improve your plant's operation. Additional improvements, like more devices, more
systems, enhanced functionality, and Wireless HART would benefit users of this technology.
7 WSE-07 Life Cycle Management Services for Open Control Systems
Larry Andrews, ABB
This presentation will introduce you to the new ABB OCS Assured Performance Agreement, which has been developed to satisfy
the evolving needs of control system owners. This flexible service framework, available for all ABB control systems, provides
scalable service solutions ranging from expert services to supplement a self-maintenance strategy to a complete outsourced
maintenance approach for your control systems. High performance organizations need to constantly re-think established
practices. If your organization is reviewing the long-term maintenance needs for your open control systems, this presentation will
outline a number of potential solutions to consider as you update your maintenance strategy.
8 WSY-14 Keys to Effectively Deploying a Reliability Centered Maintenance Strategy
Bruce Reierson, ABB
This presentation will explore the key elements required to effectively deploy a reliability centered maintenance (RCM) strategy
that supports your operational excellence goals and improves overall financial performance. Run-to-failure (RTF), preventative
maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM), and condition-based maintenance (CBM) are all common maintenance
practices deployed by industry today. Rarely does a facility follow a single maintenance approach; historically, a blend of both
run-to-failure and preventative maintenance tactics have been used. The challenge is to develop a balanced strategy that
ensures an asset’s performance, availability and life at the lowest cost. A reliability centered maintenance strategy provides this
balance.
9 CSE-05 Driving Profitable Maintenance Improvements: Pernod Ricard Case Study
Dan Denisoff, Pernod Ricard
This workshop focuses on how you can better adapt the operator environment for a more productive, secure operation. The
amount of available information is steadily growing, and as a result it is time to put the operator in focus by stressing ergonomics
and how information is filtered and presented. There is a lot of money to save if the operator can reduce time to decision and
secure action.

engineering personnel to make the right decisions and take the correct action. Through features like personalized workplaces,
intuitive navigation, integrating and filtering information, and notification techniques like SMS messaging, plant personnel can be
notified and given current, relevant information. Real-life customer applications will be shared.
7 CCH-02 Interfacing AC&O Applications to ABB Industrial IT
David Stanley, The Dow Chemical Company
This presentation will show you how Dow has developed interfaces to provide protection for most of the DCSs commonly used in
Dow, including ABB Industrial IT. Interfacing an external application, such as a multivariable controller or optimizer, to any DCS
system has the potential to cause undesired/unintended behavior in the DCS controls. We will discuss how simply allowing
external applications to write to PID controller setpoints is potentially dangerous, due to the possibility of communication errors,
application errors, etc. To mitigate the risks in such an interface, all setpoints from external applications must be validated by the
DCS before being accepted. Validation should include absolute and rate-of-change limit checking, setpoint tracking, watchdog,
and all-or-none setpoint acceptance.
8 WSY-35 System 800xA Integrated Documentation
Bob Kanel, ABB
This technical session will show you how much time you would save if all the reference material needed for you daily activities
with System 800xA was integrated and available on-line. We will use a demonstration to illustrate how easy it is to integrate
documents and reference material into System 800xA. In addition, the demo will show how dynamic documents can be created
and display current 800xA data integrated in with other content. Anyone can easily take advantage of this time saving capability,
making this session a must for all System 800xA users.
9 WSY-07 Driving Results Through Overall Equipment Effectiveness
Bruce Reierson, ABB
At this session, you will enhance your knowledge about the role Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) plays in achieving
operational excellence. We will demonstrate how OEE positively impacts financial results by leveraging asset optimization and
the combination of asset health information and maintenance strategies to drive improvements in production availability,
performance and quality. Improvements in any one of these OEE key performance indicators will have a direct impact on
production efficiency and productivity. By using real-time production information combined with asset health information,
operations and maintenance can work together to prioritize improvements and make sound operational decisions.
