Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization.

The organization I am going to write about is the US Army National Guard. I have had
good times in the military. I have been on a deployment, traveled all over the nation, and
have received once in a lifetime opportunities. I have been in this organization for nearly
six years now and I am a sergeant (E-5). I have only been a sergeant for about a year and
I feel like I learn something new everyday. It is important to me to be the best leader I
can be.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

The role I am going to discuss is my role as a team leader. I am one of two team leaders
in my squad. I have three soldiers that I am responsible for. I have been a team leader for
about the same amount of time I have been a sergeant: a year.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think the will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

The situation I will be discussing is a situation I had with my squad leader. In many
situations we find ourselves struggling with communication. I am a team leader, my
squad leader does not like sending out group text messages so when information comes
in, he will send it to me and I will put it out in a group chat. However, this causes conflict
and an overlap in responsibility. There are times when he does not check his email or
phone to get the necessary information to put out, my platoon sergeant started emailing
me directly, and the squad comes to me with any concern. I am acting as a squad leader
without properly having that role assigned to me.
