BACKGROUND INFORMATION

A. Program History

The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering program at the Jouf University


is a part of the College of Engineering with Dr. Mohammed noor M Almaghrabi as
the Dean. The program started receiving students in the second semester of the
study year 2006-2007. The first batch of students was graduated in the first
semester of the study year 2010-2011.
Dr. Abdullah G. Alharbi is the chair of the Electrical Engineering Department and
oversees the program administration. The program faculty consists of sixteen
faculty members within the department. The program faculty is directly involved
in the definition of educational objectives and the assessment process for their
programs.

B. Options
The Electrical Engineering degree program requires 168 credit hours of which 34
credit hours are offered in the preparatory year. Two tracks are offered in the
program: (1) Electrical Engineering (Communications) and (2) Electrical
Engineering (Power). Details of the courses for each track are given in Curriculum
section (Criteria 5).

C. Program Delivery Modes


The university operates on the semester system. The program has course offerings
from Sunday to Thursday, both during the day and evening hours. The traditional
form of teaching in the program often involves on-campus learning through
lectures and tutorials. Off-campus learning, via Blackboard e-learning system, is
usually arranged once or twice for each course.

D. Program Locations
The program is offered in the Electrical Engineering Department building at Jouf
University located in Jouf province. Jouf province lies in north western part of
Saudi Arabia, about 1000 km away from the country's capital city of Riyadh.
