I. OBJECTIVES :
1. To know the different ranges of VOM used as DC Voltmeter, Ohmmeter, AC
Voltmeter and DC Miliammeter.
2. To distinguish the scale plate of VOM and interpret accurately the scale reading in
relation to the scale used .

II. MATERIALS REQUIRED :

1. 1 unit – VOM (360TR) or equivalent
2. 1 pc – operating manual

III. PROCEDURE :
1. Show where the following resistance would be at RX1 and Rx100. Determine the
actual reading, record the readings and draw in table 1.
a. 20 ohms
b. 150 ohms
c. 550 ohms

IV. TEST REVIEW EXERCISES

1. ______ is an instrument used for measuring voltage.

2. When a precision measuring instrument combines voltage, resistance and current
functions, it is called a ______ .
3. Observe ______ n measuring DC voltage and current.
4. Always set the meter on the ______ range of that function , if measuring an unkown
voltage or current.
5. ______ is an instrument used for measuring resistance.
6. Before taking a resistance measurement, ______ the Ohmmeter to prevent
erroneous measurement.

V. QUESTIONS :
1. Is the ohmmeter scale on your VOM linear or non-linear? State your reasons by
referring specifically to resistance calibration.
2. Explain how you would zero the VOM on the DC voltage readings. Identify the
control.
3. Is it possible to use the same voltmeter range as on the 1000 volt range of your
VOM? State briefly your reason
4. Explain how you would check to determine if the meter pointer is adjusted exactly
at zero position on Rx1k range. Identify the control you would use.
5. List the controls on the panel of your VOM and state briefly the function of each
control.
