 Develop skills in using and operating VOM
Electrical test instruments are vital instruments that are often use for Left infinity
troubleshooting, repairing and analysing the operation of a specific device. The
most frequently measured electrical parameters are voltage, current and
resistance. The multi - tester or Multi – meter or sometimes called the VOM is the best RANGE SELECTOR KNOB (Selector switch) makes it possible to select different
instrument thatcan be measure the three major electrical quantity. But this instrument functions and range of the mete
measure thenumerical value, not the actual waveform, which is also important to know
specially when troubleshooting .
THE MULTI METER
(Volt Ohm Meter)
The Multitester or multi meter is sometimes called the VOM (voltmeter,
ohmmeter, milliammeter). It is the best instrument that can measure voltage,
resistance and current. It is generally made of two types: the analog and the digital.
The analog multi – tester is the most commonly used. It has a moving coil Test probe positive (red), negative (black)
assembly which is characterized by needle pointer. The advantage of analog multi – used to connect the circuit to the electrical
tester over digital multi – tester is a resistance test in testing electronic components components being teste
such as the capacitors and transistor. Zero adjusting Knob – use to adjust pointer to the right infinity

needle range when measuring the ohm, voltage range when measuring voltage
and ammeter range when measuring the value of electric current.
4. Always check the condition of its battery. Worn out batteries will damage
the internal setting of the tester.

5. When the tester is not in used or will be stored, set the selector switch to Range 50V 1V
1000V or to OFF position. Range 250V 5V
6. Never drop the tester. Range 100V 20V
B. How to read the meter scale of the multi tester
