CHAPTER 2

A. POLITICAL ENVIRONMENT

Through paying taxes and other necessary financial costs, ABC's CoffeeTeaRia

would contribute to environmental sustainability. To ensure what the company offers

complies with health and safety laws and regulations, the business will ensure that Food

and Drug Administration (FDA), Department of Health (DOH), and sanitary licenses are

applied for. ABC's CoffeeTeaRia also guarantees that licenses, business permits and

tax registrations are provided to make the business legitimate to prevent any fines and

to place the business at risk. The said business is indeed informed of the Republic Act

(RA) No. 9711, otherwise known as the FDA Act of 2009, which prohibits the

manufacturing process, importation, exportation, selling, offer for sale, distribution,

distribute or purchase of any food by any legal or natural individual without a license to

operate (LTO) from the FDA. ABC's CoffeeTeaRia is also knowledgeable with the

"Consumer act of the Philippines" or Republic Act No. 7394 in which it addresses how

customers are protected from fraudulent businesses and maintain their rights in the

14
market. Apart from consumer rights, business is still aware of the labor code of the

Philippines. It is a legal code that specifies all work practices and labor relations in the

Philippines. This is meant to help protect businesses and workers, while at the same

time ensuring that neither is subject to unequal treatment or misconduct. As far as the

supplies needed for the company are concerned, they will be purchased from the local

distributors so that there is no need to apply a license in terms of import and export

regulations.

B. ECONOMICAL ENVIRONMENT

As the country’s economies are continue to grow, there are many possible

economic factors that will affect the business. The most common factor is the supply

and demand. Coffee and tea is an agricultural commodity and if the production of it will

change, it will also affect the price of the product. In short, the lower the production, the

higher the price and the higher the production, the lower the price.

To support the production of the business, the entrepreneurs will work with the

local suppliers that can surely and possibly strengthen the local economy. Working with

local suppliers will aim to improve public relations that is a huge help to all people living

in the community and a boost to the economy. It will also improve speed to the market

since time is very important, it is essential for the business owners to work with the local

suppliers that will help them to boost the product and maintain a competitive edge.

With local sourcing, it will allow the business to have greater control when it

comes to the quality assurance of the product. This will also help to achieve accurate

15
budget forecasting for the means of regulation and legal considerations. Lastly, the

business will engage with a true partnership that will lead them to a perception that they

are capable, competitive and professional.

C. SOCIO-CULTURAL ENVIRONMENT

Among our Filipino community, having coffee or tea is part of our culture and

tradition. The business is created with an image and impression for those people who

really like to have some break having their coffees and teas for them to relax and chill

whether it may be local or international franchise like The White Cup, Coffee Bean, and

Starbucks. ABC's CoffeeTeaRia, plays an important role for the consumer's lives. The

products such as coffees and teas may be differ from other brands and hidden

symbolism, they may be similar in terms of preparation method usage. Many people

purchase coffee and tea and willingly spend more than a hundreds or thousands of their

money just to avail a business promo and stuffs like planners, tumblers and

merchandise.

Coffees and teas has also penetrated by an individual in their household. They

take coffees or teas while working or studying at home. Every entrepreneur have their

own strategy on how they will increase their product sales and for their business to be

well known all over the world. Because of the rise of technology, many entrepreneurs

come up with an idea to include internet business with coffee business known as

internet cafés where you can do your paper works or play online games. Moreover, for

those people who loves animals, pet cafés also shares for coffee and tea industry.

Locally and internationally, entrepreneurs who created their business with coffees and

16
teas promote their own business in their own strategies. Others are advertising their

business through social media where customers can see their products, satisfy their

cravings and interest, and share some feedbacks.

The business, ABC'S CoffeeTeaRia fits culturally in social system and commits

to use local ingredients to continuously promote community engagement and

uniqueness. Our business also provides good service such as internet, books, games,

sleeping pods, etc. for our customers to be productive, chill and relax. Overall, business

products such as coffees and teas will remain the world's greatest addiction and will

never fade.

D. TECHNOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENT

As we all know at the time when the technologies were not yet updated, we only

used paper and pen often. But as time goes on, technologies are constantly evolving

and in our current generation we are favored for the reason of more and more

technologies are being developed to help facilitate our tasks. With the help of these

innovative technologies, ABC’s CoffeeTeaRia can better serve the future customers.

Nowadays, one of the most important technology among the food and drink

industries is the existence of genetic engineering that helps to improve taste and yield.

With the help of it, it allows the coffee industry to grow in popularity and generate larger

profits. Another useful appliance that will make the business to produce its product is

the coffee vending machines and coffee grinders. It will support the business to have a

17
better efficiency and experience low maintenance for that fact that it is uncomplicated to

use.

Laptops and printers are one of the technologies that will use and provide within

the company to help the employees facilitate the encoding of sales and also use the

printer for the design of our products. Wireless Fidelity or Wi-Fi is also among the things

needed for easy access to the company’s websites and to be updated with emails, etc.

CCTV is also needed for in the companies because entrepreneurs want to ensure

security in the operating area.

E. ECOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENT

These are the main challenges faced by coffee-related entrepreneurs; first is the

climate and soil conditions affecting cultivation and production which slows down and

delay the delivery of materials and supplies on time. Based on the study, climate

change could significantly reduce coffee production in the coming years. Insects and

pests also affect coffee production. With the proliferation of pests, the shortage of

production is inevitable as they are destroyed by insects. Sustainable farming methods

have been a major benefit to the coffee industry. Over irrigation of coffee lands has

resulted in numerous dangerous situations and, in general, environmental harm. These

concerns have been averted with the aid of modern farming methods and coffee

farming can now be practiced with no or limited environmental threats.

ABC'S CoffeTeaRia is not just an ordinary and typical cafe. Except of its

affordability, it also promotes positive impact on the environment. It minimizes the risk of

pollution and improves the quality of the environment. It provides warm, comfortable

and relaxing atmosphere to its customers.

18
ABC'S CoffeTeaRia will use an eco-friendly products and materials to lessen the

amount of pollutants just like plastics that are usually used by some coffee shops

especially here in our country. A certain study estimated that 500 billion disposable cups

are produced annually. Since it is non-biodegradable, it will took for a hundreds of years

before it became totally decomposed which can contaminate the soil and can destroy

the quality of it. It is also harmful to the animal's health and even to humans. Some

plastics and other non-biodegradable materials used in coffee shops were just only

disposed on drainages going to our local waterways such as rivers and lakes. And

because of its high level of aquatic toxicity, it ruins the quality of the quality of both salt

water and fresh water. It is also hazardous to aquatic creatures such as corals, fishes,

algae, etc. Environment doesn't deserve destruction, it deserves preservation that's why

instead of using these indirect polluters, ABC's CoffeTeaRia will be using eco-friendly,

compostable and disposable packaging such as paper coffee cups and wooden coffee

stirrers in order to be greener and produce less waste. Producing less waste will not just

be the priority of this cafe. It will also implements discipline in terms of waste disposal. It

will practice the 3r's and segregation of wastes by providing trash bins with proper

labels for the customers to know where they should throw their wastes.

will not function productively if the there is no presence of suppliers. It is important for a
supplier and a certain company/business to ensure a good communication and build a
healthy relationship to each other for them to gain better value for their business
partnership. It is necessary to manage this relationship so a business can run and
provide the customers with efficient supply of products and services. Business owners
must work and communicate closely with suppliers to get the best quality of their
products. They should do the research first about the profile and references of certain
suppliers to ensure that they are financially stable. Business owners must also know
how to deal with their suppliers, the consistency in terms of delivery, the quality and
quantity of their products or services, and also the level of their sales and reviews. On

41
the other hand, suppliers must also make sure that the company they're working with
maintains what they've been agreed to each other.
As part of the food industry, ABC'S CoffeeTeaRia ensures the risk first before
dealing with a supplier. It evaluates the quality and control the quantity of products or
services offered by a supplier. The business has six sources of suppliers and these
includes The Northern Coffee Bean Store, a wholesaler, retailer and supplier of roasted

To evaluate and maintain its good performance and relationships in various
suppliers, there are certain practices that the ABC'S CoffeeTeaRia should consider.

42
a) Establish performance indicator
ABC'S CoffeeTeaRia will establish the supplier's performance in terms of delivery
time, delivery costs, response time, the quality and quantity of products ordered, defect
rate, order accuracy, and the ordered price vs selling price. This will monitor the value,
cost, service and waste of the supplier to the business.

b) Establish supplier performance reviews

customers as well, to know if their products and services offered were good enough to
meet the business' needs and customers' expectations. ABC'S CoffeeTeaRia will also
conduct a research about the reviews of other businesses who also have a partnership
with that supplier.

2C. Material Requisition and Receiving Procedures.

The systematic method of purchasing goods and services is known as

purchasing. While the buying process differs from one company to the next, there are

certain main elements that are universal.

1. Purchase Requisition

Purchases of materials and ingredients to make drinks, specifically coffee and

teas are initiated by purchase orders. It is a formal request to the purchase manager, by

the head of the department or other authorities, to purchase the specified materials.

2. Selection of Suppliers

The purchasing department maintains a list of suppliers for each type of material

and, after inviting tenders, selects a particular supplier. In general, when the purchasing

department receives a duly authorized purchase request, the source of supply must be

selected. Purchase should be made from reliable sources of supply and ethical

43
standards should be maintained when dealing with suppliers. ABC's Management

ensures to select local suppliers that can fulfill our demands for the good quality

products our customers deserve. As for the local suppliers, we selected The Northern

Coffee Bean Store, Top Creamery- Premix Manufacturer & Supplier, The Pastry

Company, Puregold, Aquabest, Unlipack, and Anding’s Toys and Flowers Inc.

3. Purchase Order and Follow-up

Purchase Order Follow-up includes whether the shipment has been made, if the

price and terms match the quotation, if the calculations indicated are correct. The

Procurement Manager should monitor the shipping, delivery, expediting and partial

shipment of ordered items, assist Production in maintaining a consistent production flow

and ensure that the operational requirements of other departments are also met. The

purchase order shall be the form used by the purchasing department which authorizes

the suppliers to supply the specified materials at the price and terms specified. A

purchase order must be carefully planned since it serves as the foundation for a legal

contract between the parties. For this reason, the authority to sign purchase orders

should also be limited to selected responsible officials from financial management. Our

Team will make The Northern Coffee Bean Store, Top Creamery- Premix Manufacturer

& Supplier, The Pastry Company, Puregold, Aquabest, Unlipack, and Anding’s Toys

and Flowers Inc. as our main suppliers. On the other hand, the said companies and

suppliers will be expected to supply products and ingredients once a week.

44
4. Receipts of Material

The receiving department should receive all incoming information. This

department's responsibilities include unpacking and inspecting the items received, as

well as verifying their quantities and conditions. The amount is compared to the

purchase order copy as well as the supplier's advice note, which is usually included with

the goods. The goods received by the note serve the purpose of receipt of materials by

the store keeper or other requisitions. It also informs the accounting department that the

materials have arrived and that a voucher can be generated.

5. Inspecting and Testing Materials

The quantity of goods purchased should be checked to ensure that they meet the

purchasing order's requirements. Where it is necessary to carry out a technical or

laboratory inspection, the goods shall be sent to the laboratory which shall provide a

report on the quality of the goods. The results of the inspection are reported in an

inspection report. This report is prepared either separately or as part of the goods

receipt notice. The report is sent to the buying department in any case.

6. Return of Rejected Materials

When products are defective or do not meet requirements, they are usually

returned to the supplier with a debit note telling him that his account has been debited

for the value of the materials in question. When a supplier accepts a demand, he shows

his approval by issuing a credit note. The rejected products may either be returned to

the supplier right away or kept until he gives you instructions.

45
7. Passing Invoices for Payment

When the buying department receives the invoices, the process of arranging the

business paper associated with each order and preparing vouchers starts. Invoices are

serially numbered and entered into an invoice register.

C. PRICE
Pricing strategy is needed in the business for the means of price is the most
important part of the sales promotion. In that way, there are factors that should be
considered when making a pricing decision in a business products such as product
cost, the utility and demand, extent of competition in the market, government and legal
regulations, pricing objectives, and marketing methods used. This will allow the
business to help customer’s choice of products and find if the product is worthy to avail.

The ABC’s CoffeeTeaRia will use the Cost-Based Pricing Strategy. It involves
calculating the cost of the product, and then adding a percentage mark-up to
determine price. We utilize this pricing strategy because it is easy to calculate and
requires little information.

traditional channels such as; flyers, posters and advertisements to different social media
platforms. The management also have an eye in hosting an every-special holiday-event
in which we plan to organizing event that can satisfy our consumers.

the business. This way, we think that through giving flyers and business card and
posting posters. We can attract customers to try our product. Nevertheless, it is
effective to any kinds of business and it is still popular to business owners
nowadays. - while we distribute these things, we also think of using social media
platforms to promote our business since it has a bigger influence than the
traditional channel.in using social media we can create a public page that
contains the business' location, menu and other information that can be seen by
many. The management can also create an online event in which the consumers

idea considering our customers that could not find time to go out of their house.
 If an Online Event will be held, so is an actual event that will be held every
special holiday. Our management came up with this idea with the awareness of
how much people love events. We also think that we can have a great
opportunity while hosting an event by attracting more people to participate and
be a regular member of the business.
 Giving coupons is also effective especially for the consumers wherein they can
have a discount by purchasing specific products that our cafe offers.
