DIRECTED WRITING: REPORT

To: Principal of Sek Men Kebangsaan Kepala Batas

The Poor Conditions of the School Canteen

I am Amira Rosli, the Head Prefect of SK Paya Batas. I have received several

complaints from the students concerning the school canteen. This is a serious matter and

should be solved as soon as possible.

First of all, the food sold at the canteen are not nutritious. Most of the food are

processed food which contains a lot of preservatives. A lot of the food are very oily which is

unhealthy because they are high in calories. Maybe we could have more vegetables and

fruits instead (suggestion).

The food is not tasty. Sometimes, the food taste bland and sometimes it is too salty. the

Other than that, there are limited choices of food. Most of the time, the food prepared

are the same. In addition, the food is too expensive. For example, one piece of chicken/ one

plate of fried rice, costs RM 4-5. Since it is too expensive, the students cannot buy a proper

meal. Therefore, students would usually buy snacks like keropok lekor or ice cream which is

unhealthy and cannot make the students full.

Next, I would like to talk about the canteen’s cleanliness. The food served is not

covered and exposed to flies. (relate with experience) There have been several cases

where students found dead flies or bugs in their meal/food. Some students also have had

stomach-ache after eating the food from the canteen. Then, the cutlery prepared in the

canteen are also dirty. The cutleries are not washed properly and still have stains on them.

The drains around the canteen are also clogged and smelly. It is very uncomfortable for the

students to eat at the canteen. As a result, some students would eat in their classes.

However, eating in class during recess is not allowed.


Then, the workers at the canteen are quite rude. They like to yell and use improper

language/ harsh words with the students. Some of the students are scared of the workers.

Other than that, the workers have poor personal hygiene. It is important for the workers to be

hygienic because they are working around food. Poor hygiene may transmit bacteria into the

food. Other than that, the canteen doesn’t have enough workers. There is only one person at

the counter

 Add two other complaints

- Not enough food

- The chairs and tables are not properly arranged

- Canteen does not open in the afternoon

- The floor is slippery

Other than that, there is not enough food for the students. There are 500 students who go to

the canteen, however the food is not enough for all of the students at the school.

Next, the chairs and tables are not properly arranged. Sometimes, students bumped into

disorganized chairs and tables and hurt themselves.

The canteen also does not open in the afternoon. Students who have extra classes in the

afternoon often have no food to eat.

Next, the floor is also very slippery. It is dangerous for the students.
