Determination of Ixx and Iyy of Beam under 5

unsymmetrical bending
Procedure:
• Tare both the deflection gauges.
• Load the hanger with 0.3N load and determine the deflection in both the gauges at
angle 0 degree.
• Increment the load on the hanger to 0.6 N and determine the deflection in both the
gauges at an angle of 0 degrees
• Increment the load on the hanger to 0.9 N and determine the deflection in both the
gauges at an angle of 0 degrees

• Tare both the deflection gauges.

• Now repeat step 2,3,4 to determine deflections at an angle of
22.5,45,67.5,90,112.5,135,157.5 and 180 degress.

• Note down all the reading in a tabulated form shown on the next slide
Δ𝑈 Δ𝑉
• Calculate the (Δ𝑃 ) 𝑎𝑛𝑑 (Δ𝑃) using this data and then draw Mohr circle using largest
Δ𝑈 Δ𝑉
value of (Δ𝑃 ) x axis and (Δ𝑃) on y-axis (refer to next slides)
• Once Mohr Circle is made, find the principle values of Moments of Inertia
