Arrival/Dismissal
Gates open at 7:15. Students will go directly to their designated classroom from Car Rider or as a walker.
Dismissal is at 2:50PM Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and 12:15 PM on Thursday. Students will depart
campus as a bus rider, walker, or through Car Rider. Walking in to pick up students directly from class is not
permitted at this time. Lunch is not served on early dismissal days, therefore, students are encouraged to
bring a healthy snack.

Attendance
Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is a must! This is crucial to his/her success. Please notify
the office before 9AM when your child is absent. Please refer to the Parent/Student handbook for further
questions regarding attendance.

Clothing
Please refer to the DVA Parent/Student Handbook for P.E. and uniform requirements. Closed toed shoes with
socks are to be worn daily. During cooler months, students may wear a non-DVA coat outdoors, but may only
wear DVA jackets and sweaters when inside. Face coverings are expected to be worn during school hours, at
this time, with exceptions for medical reasons.

Changes in Transportation/Pick-up
If you plan to pick up your child that normally rides the bus, you MUST send a written note or call the school.
Do not rely on your child to relay this information, as children often relay the message incorrectly. Also, if
someone other than the routine pick-up person is picking up your child, you MUST send a written note or call
the school. We will not release a child without notification unless the person is on record for pick-up. If a note
or message from the office is not received, your child will be sent home by the scheduled method of
transportation. Please be patient with us, as we will ask for a picture ID from you and others who pick up your
child. We want to make sure that your child goes home with only those who are on the approved list. To limit
the number of occupants in the building, all children must be picked up via CarRider Pro. THANK YOU for your
cooperation!

Daily Folders
Your child will bring home a folder with information for you, optional activities, and unfinished work. Please
check and clean out your child’s backpack daily.

Special Areas
Kinder students have the following special classes every Friday: Technology, PE/Health, Media/Library, Art,
and Music. Please refer to the DVA Parent/Student Handbook for the PE dress code.

Lunch
Please refer to the DVA Parent/Student Handbook for lunch money procedures. When sending money for
lunch, please send it in an envelope labeled “lunch money” and your child’s name.

Snack
Please provide a healthy snack for your child each day. Examples of healthy snacks are prepackaged crackers,
granola bars, pretzels, raisins, trail mix, carrots, celery, and fruit. Please try to keep the sugary foods to a
minimum. Snacks should be kept separate from your child’s lunch, if s/he brings his/her lunch. This allows a
student to grab his/her snack quickly and not accidentally eat his/her lunch at snack time.

Report Cards
Report cards will be accessible online each quarter. You will also be able to view your child’s progress reports
online. You will receive notices regarding Parent/Teacher Conferences.

Parent/Teacher Relationship
In order to achieve maximum success, a healthy parent-teacher relationship is necessary. Throughout the
year, we will communicate through notes, telephone calls, letters, emails, and conferences. We encourage
you to contact us with any questions or concerns. You may write on Remind, email, or leave a message with
the office. Please sign into each of your child’s Remind account.

Book Orders/Reading
Monthly book orders will be sent home to allow parents to buy quality, educationally appropriate books. A
wide range of books, starting as low as $1, are offered. If you wish to order books for your child you may do
so online, or fill out the form and return it to school. If you choose to use the paper order form, please
enclose it along with a check to Scholastic Book Clubs for the exact amount. Place the check and the order in
an envelope labeled “Book Order” and your child’s name, and send it to school in your child’s folder.

We encourage parents to read their children every day! Expose your child to many different educational
books to expand their imagination and creativity. Reading is essential and fun!
