most are dependent on philanthropic grants for their existence Less than 10% find gainful
employment and the rest are majorily unemployed. Under such conditions there is an urgent
needs for a skill development and employment initiative for people with disabilities.

Project Description/Introduction

Project Vidhi is a unique skill development and education program for the people with disabilities. The disabled population is
about 21 million in the country with most of the people unemployed or suffering from disguised unemployment. Over 80 %

The disabled population have no source of gainful employment and have to depend on philanthropic grants for their existence
.Amongst the disabled the womenfolk have the added burden of societal restrictions which further impairs their chances of
employment. With so many barriers there is a urgent need for an intervention to skill train them and make them employed.
Hero Has partnered with NABET in this unique skill development and employment project exclusively for the people with
disabilities. NABET has a mandate to skill train and create employment for the differently abled beneficiaries. Skill training in
various fields such as IT/ITes , Garments and Handicrafts, BPO segment ,packaging etc are the few sectors which have been
identified for employment generation for our special friends.
Nabet has also been promoting opportunities for self employment also for persons with disabilities. We understand that the
immense potential and opportunities for mass employment which self employment offers for persons with disabilities. NABET
has also been working excessively with government organization and facilitating schemes such as Mudra etc which helps in
facilitating their business setup process. There is a lot of initial hand holding support which is required for completing the
empowerment loop and NABET is always working in tandem with the deserving specially abled population to create a better
future for them

ACTIVITY IMPLEMENTATION PROGRESS

Progress Narrative --- Vidhi from Nov 2017- March 2019

The last year saw a lot of activities under taken by NABET towards its mission to create an
empowered and employed disabled population
1. Mobilization of candidates for fresh batches at various centers.NABET is also proud of the fact that
NABET has grown and now would self operate from 3 more centres apart from the main campus in
Manesar

2. NABET Skill training across different centres

NABET has been operating across its satellite centres in Jhajjhar , Ghaziabad and Vasundhara where
skill training efforts were conducted . NABET was able to mobilize over 325 candidates from different
parts of Delhi /Ncr . We has girls having different capabilities and aspirations who came to us with the
hope of securing a better future for them and their families. At many instances they have been the sole
bread winners for themselves and their families. NABET with the support of Hero has been instrumental in
creating a better future for the candidates

3. Mobilization from all parts of the country

NABET has been able to identify candidates who have come from all parts of the country . Nabet
has beneficiaries coming in from all parts of the country who reach us with the hope of getting
skill trained to the expectation of the companies.
4. Resource centre formation

NABET has been able to setup resource centers which act as the first level interface between the
candidates and the organization. It was found that the challenges and queries need to be addressed
at the mobilization stage in order to have a seamless skill training program. Often many
questions remain unanswered and people need a face to face interface in order to acknowledge
these questions before coming down to our centers.

Resource centres have been setup in Gorakhpur and in Chitrakoot . Parents of the beneficiaries
get an opportunities to interact with the councilors and send their children after been sure what
they are going to gain from the program

5. Skill training program was also conducted in Jhajjhar district of Haryana . Also as an addition
Men were allowed to be trained in the program. This was done as it was found that an only
women program was difficult to implement and an inclusive environment was important to get
better results from the program

6. Nabets effort of over 1 year with the participation of Hero has borne fruits and the efforts involved in
mobilization has considerably reduced. Now people trust the brand name and readily come for the
training program

Employment and Sensitization program to Corporate

An effort from Nabet to create employment avenues and sensitize the corporate about
handicapped employment was carried out by our executives. Mr Arjun from our organization
conducted a workshop on blind/ handicapped employment amongst CEOs/business heads of
Google and its supported companies at Mumbai. This workshop at Here.com was very forceful
efort where corporate were urged to employ handicapped people.

Mass Job Fair for Persons with disabilities

Nabet had organized a mass job fair which saw the participation of over 21 corporates and 1500 persons
with disabilities coming in from all parts of the country. This was organized in 18 Feb 2019. The companies
were also sensitized about the cause of the disabled and they were asked to commit to employ the persons in
order to create an inclusive workplace and society

Sensitization of corporate about the cause of disabled empowerment

In its quest to increase the employment amongst the persons with disabilties NABET organized a mass
sensitization drive. NABET invited industry leader on a single platform to commit ways in which they
would be interested in associating with NABET and taking up the cause of disabled empowerment in their
companies in a big manner. NABET understands that the transformation needs to be first initiated in the
minds of stakeholders of the project viz corporate individuals and the society in general

Companies have shown a lot of interest in associating with NABET and doing their bit for the
empowerment of the disabled

International Promotion of Hero Initiative

NABET could the opportunity to speak about how it is transforming the lives of the persons with
disabilities and how the support of HeroMotocorp in going a long way in bringing back light into the lives
of the disabled. NABET got an opportunity to speak about the Vidhi Project in the Bangladesh BPO
summit hosted in Pan Pacific Hotel in Sonargaon and in the presence of the minister of IT and
Telecommunication Mr Mustafa Jabar . The minister congratulated Hero and NABET for its effort

NABET Won Laurels from Haryana Government

NABET was awarded the best NGO in Haryana implementing CSR practices for the government of
Haryana . This award was in recognition of the tremendous work done by NABET in tandem with the
government of Haryana for the betterment of the lives of the disabled
The award was given in recognition of the good work done in the empowerment in the lives of the persons
with disabilities in india

Drawing Govt/ Corporate attention towards hiring of people with handicap .

NABET has initiated work with NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation) in order to help candidates have the
required certification and training to the expected industry standards. We have also tried to align the training to the
expected industry standards so that maximum placement may be secured .NABET has amongst the very few centres
in Haryana and across the country that awards the degree given by NSDC

Implementation Challenges

1. People ask for matching subsidies in tune with program run by the government (Such as
Sipda) .The benefits such as monetary returns and scholarships are unmatchable by us
leading to lesser enrollment

2. A women only course has draw backs as family members are hesitant to send their
daughters alone and have concerns of safety. They request to accompany their daughter
in the program which puts additional costs and challenges to the program

3. In the past many NGOs have failed to deliver jobs post completion of training and thus
we are bearing the consequences of failures of other organizations

4. The girl students request to have their training program closer to their homes leading to
the opening of many satellite centers by us.

5. There is a challenge to mobilize the candidates from the far flung areas of the country
and there is a need to have a physical touch to the mobilization in order to ease this
process. We need to have more counseling center apart from the one presently active
in order to ease the mobilization exercise.

6. We also need a continuation without interruption model for implementation in order to


ensure the better implementation of the program . Stoppages of cash flow affects the
program and brings in huge additional costs and challenges.

7. There is a legacy system of training which has operational inefficiencies and NABET
has been trying to change that . Changing an age old system and habits like lethargy,
non adherence to timelines , casual mindset etc. It is not a simple to change all that in
a short while. Any strictness specially with women students is a difficult task .

Project Management updates

1. Efforts were in place to create an in house tool for project management which would
be shared with NABET affiliated partners for keeping track of the program
implementation

2. NABET team has been working with Goodhera to keep track and provide visual
capitalization of data to the HMCL Management

3. NABET is also working on creation of registration and tracking module training to our
affiliated centres in order to provide seamless data collection and capture

4. NABET is facing a little challenge with the basic handholding with the technological
readiness of the partners but we are working to overcome this

3. INTEGRATION OF CROSSCUTTING ISSUES AND NABET FORWARD PRIORITIES

Gender Equality and Female Empowerment

The biggest impact which Vidhi has been able to deliver is the change in perception of
the abilities of the women with disabilities. There is a new self belief and a rising sense
of pride which this project has been able to impact in the lives of the specially abled
women of India. They have been able to be considered as at par with the men of the
community and as a equal contributing member

Sustainability Mechanisms

There is a urgent need to develop a self sustainable model in line with the one created at
NABET. The urgent need is due to the reluctance of the industry to open their gates for
employment of people with disabilities. Models like NABET forms a self sustaining and
thriving model which removes the need of external dependence

Market Linkage to the candidates completing the training

1. NABET has been able to secure interest and participation from leading companies in order to
provide employment to our candidates .We have secured employment from leading companies such
as Nagarro India, Vodofone India and British Telecom in our efforts

2. Many companies in Delhi/NCR across different fields such as hospitality telecom etc have shown a
interest in hiring the PWD

3. Companies see the advantage of reduced attrition and a lot of dedication to the work at hand.
Companies have also been considerate to the little adjustments which are needed to make the
program a success

4. Candidates have also taken up opportunities of self employment so that they can earn a good living
for themselves and their families

4. STAKEHOLDER PARTICIPATION AND INVOLVEMENT

Government Participation
Government of Rajasthan : Government of Rajasthan via the office of the DC Alwar
office had helped in activation of the candidates via a mass awareness and employment
drive organized in the office premises. There was huge enrollment of people with
disabilities form Dharuhera Chopanki , Ahmadpur Ahirbas etc

International NGO best Practices

There was sharing of best practices and knowledge by Leonard Chesire a Leading NGO
of UK which has an active presence across various South Asian Countries. The
organization is a leading name in the field of disabled employment for the people with
disabilities and are internationally acclaimed for it Best practices in training and
employee engagement were shared by the 2 organization for better implementation of the
program.

5. MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES

a) NABET had to create an pool of trainers who could be deployed in the various centres
opened by it spread across the Delhi/Ncr region
b) There also helped in training our specially abled trainers to independently manage the
centres as was been done in the Main campus

c) There was a need for delegation of responsilities amongst the resources to become
future ready and independent leaders to run the program

Nabet Collaborated with the Red Cross Society

Nabet was invited to work on the project of empowerment of persons with disabilities along with the district
administration via the office of the District Commissioner of Gurgaon. All welfare schemes of the district
administration are implemented via the Rec Cross society and NABET was made the implementation agency
for this . Mr Vinay Pratap the erstwhile DC of Gurgaon visited NABETs premises and spoke to the
beneficiaries to understand their challenges and motivated them

LESSON LEARNED

1. Mobilization takes more time specially with women trainees as compared to disabled boys
2. Family members of disabled girls needs a lot of counseling to motivate them to send their
daughters for the training
3..There is a need to not be extra intrusive in dealing with the personal information such as
the mobile numbers and the email ids of the beneficiaries

6. PLANNED ACTIVITIES FOR NEXT YEAR INCLUDING UPCOMING EVENTS

a. Opening of 3 more centers too make the centers more easily accessible by the
beneficiaries. The centers are going to be self operated by NABET and shall
be able to generate the required standards of performance

b. Enrollment of the at least 300 candidates in the next year across all the centers from which

c. Placement drives to be arranged across the different companies who are cautious about
the cause of disabled employment

1. In event in line with the mass awareness program about the plight of unemployment of
the people with disabilities to be arranged in Delhi/NCR to enlighten the citizenry of
the challenge and how companies can contribute to overcome it

opportunity to end her misery and regain control on her life. She is now actively working at the front desk of

Background Information :.

This is the story of many specially abled girls who seek an opportunity to perform to the best of their
capabilities and help reach their maximum potential. There are many more success stories to be shared of
many more Gayatris spread across the length and the breath of our great nation. She is orthopedically
challenged but makes its many times more by her zeal and dedication supported by training from NABET

Success Story Pushpa Wankhade

Pushpa Wankhade is a widow who lost her husband in the year 2014. She was dependent on her brothers for
her survival and was emotionally and mentally tortured because of her dependence. For close to 4 years she
suffered due to the lack of any job opportunities and had to suffer in solitude. In the year 2018 she participated in
one of our mobilization drives conducted in Maharashtra .She saw Vidhi as the key out of her misery and requested
us to enroll her in the skill training program. Pushpa was a quick learner and had a keen interest in computer
applications. On completion of her training she was selected by Mahindra Swaraj to work on their 1800 helpline
project. That was the beginning of the change in her life. With the economic independence she gained her self
confidence and her belief in her capabilities. She recently got married to a co worker in Nabet India and is now
leading a happy and joyous married

Success Story of Vijay Verma
Vijay Verma much like many persons with disabilities was leading a life of bewilderment as he was
very uncertain of his future. He had completed his graduation but did not have any opportunities of
employment. Vijay's father was a contract farmer and had very little resources to support his son after
the completion of his education . Vijay had to fend for himself and he did not know whom to look up
to for some guidance and support. Vijay participated in the mobilization drive done in Gorakhpur and
he also had heard about us from the students of the past batches. He inquired about the work
opportunities in Nabet and how could he be a part of it. We found Vijay to have a lot of thirst in him to
perform and do well so that he gets noticed from the trainers for his dedication and his work ethics

Upon completion of the 2 months training Vijay now works on the feedback campaign for Vodofone
Idea Ltd and has won the best employee of the month award from Vodofone. He credits his lifes
transformation to Vidhi and also talks of the importance of such programs for the persons with
disabiltiies. Vijay also acts as the torchbearer and the beacon of hope for many such disabled people
who are living in the hinterlands of India and come to us with the hope of a better tomorrow 3
