Master of Library and Information Science — Online
Course Format
Online course content is distributed
primarily synchronously with
scheduled online classes. There
are some asynchronous options.
This means students can access
course content at their convenience
while also having the opportunity
to interact with peers and faculty
in real-time through online class
meetings, online social networking,
and web-based learning
management systems.

both online and face-to-face to
advise you through each step of the
educational process, from exploring
available programs to completing
your degree to supporting your
search for the perfect job. Your
advisor will help you design a plan
of study with courses that integrate
both theory and practice and best
prepare you for a productive future
as an information professional.
The Curriculum
Our general MLIS curriculum can be
customized to meet your goals. All students
take one required technology course and
five required core courses (LIS 600, 620,
640, 650, and Capstone). Students may
complete the remaining hours with elective
courses that support their personal and
professional interests. Students working on
school licensure will have more required
courses and fewer elective options.

Opportunities
With an MLIS there are the
traditional paths of librarianship
in public, academic, or K–12 school
libraries, but there are also other
exciting tracks in diverse settings
open to information professionals.
As of 2018 the median professional
librarian salary is $59,050,
compared to $29,640 for library
paraprofessionals. (Bureau of Labor
Statistics, 2018)
