Introduction to Law

1. Give your understanding of the moral philosophy of Aristotle
In my own understanding of the moral philosophy of Aristotle’s the
“Nicomachean ethics” is that it discussed the life of moral virtue in accordance
with practical reasoning and that all human activities aim at some end that we
consider good. I think that activities are a means to a higher end and that the
highest human good is that activity is an end in itself. When we aim for happiness,
we do so for its own sake. I think that happiness depends on living in accordance
with appropriate virtues and among the multiple virtues, the best of them for me
would be the happiest one. By practicing being virtuous, honest, brave, just,
generous, considerate, a person develops an honorable and moral character and if
everyone just followed these positive characteristics then there will be no rulebook
needed and society will take care of itself
2. Write a Critique that discusses the problem areas of the philosophy of Aristotle
as applied in present times
According to Aristotle our purpose in life is to use rationality with accordance
to moral virtues and is focused on the individuality of the character. My
understanding of Aristotle’s virtue theory is that as long as we live positively and
just be good people, follow right actions then the best outcome will follow.
However, in my opinion this is too idealistic and does not apply in the modern real
world where people have different characteristics, point of views and upbringings.
It is not easy to just tell everyone to be virtuous, honest, just, brave and generous.
In my opinion, there are way too many factors that prevent a person from
manifesting the “golden mean” in himself/herself such as economic, social and
cultural climates.

I am Peter Paul Leparto Recabo, 23 years of age, Male and is currently self-
employed. I am a graduate of BS Pharmacy from the University of Santo Tomas
A.Y. 2018. I come from the province of Surigao Del Norte in the small town of
Mainit. I took up Law school since I think that the knowledge that I will gain in
law school is vital and will bear great significance in my future endeavors. I think
being a lawyer is not that profitable financially but the services and benefits that it
will give not only to me and my family but also to my community in the province
is of great amount. I feel that this will be my way of giving back to the community.
